I went to my first AA meeting today!

I went to my first AA meeting today...I have a coworker who goes on and off and I convinced her to take me. (I was so nervous and shaky that I couldn't hold on to coffee haha.... but they do drink TONS of coffee ) I am not sure what to think... It was kind of gloomy but I don't know. I do know on the way home I passed the bar and kept on driving!

Hi Person and welcome to Sober recovery. Also congratulations on going to your first meeting. I know it can be real scary. I just came back to AA myself. I was real scared even though I knew what they were like. I was afraid my old friends wouldn't welcome me back. They did. Before you know it, you'll have new friends yourself.

There's a lot of great people on here too. Keep reading and posting.

Hi Person. They arent always gloomy, it depends on the night and on the venue too, some meetings are just more cheerful than others. They should be inspiring rather than gloomy IMO.

Keep going with an open mind and I think you may get to like it, I did!

Hi person197, thanks for sharing - I'm glad you kept driving when you passed the bar.
Keep going to meetings, and I'll bet you find some that are quite good! Try your best to keep an open mind, it will help.

Congratualtions on your first meeting. I too found it a little gloomy at first but kept on going and now I love it. I'm just coming out of a relapse and am going back to my first meeting tonight...I hope I am welcomed back...fingers crossed. Good luck and keep coming back x

True...some meeting rooms (and the people in them) are more cheerful than others. But, I can remember a lot of bars that weren't all that "inviting"...however, it never stopped me from drinking in them.

There are so many meetings around to choose from...go to a lot...you'll eventually find those where you'll feel comfortable, and can't wait to get back to them. You'll actually even decide on one to become your home group...and that one will be the best one, as far as you're concerned.

Hi person! I go to meetings at the North Scottsdale Fellowship Club, and hope you'll join us there sometime. Just keep coming back, OK?

Hi Person and good for you! Keep trying different meetings..you'll find one that feels "just right".

Intro...I'm not a group person either. I'm somewhat introverted as well. You certainly wouldn't call me a people person either.

The rooms are full of people that will say the same thing about themselves. A bunch of loners united through one thing.

Let us know how it goes...

xo

Smile

I remember my first AA meeting; I had to pray really hard just to get my courage up enough to step thru the door. That was 10 months ago. Now going to the meetings feels like visiting with old friends. Keep going and I'm sure you will soon feel the same way!
