I finally got authorization to see a psychiatrist about my drinking
I too used to believe I was too shy and solitary for a group thing like AA to help someone like myself recover from alcoholism and achieve sobriety, but then my perspective changed and I became willing to go to any length to get and maintain sobriety. I went to AA and for years, still sat alone, left without numbers, had no sponsor (none of this is recommended as the best program of recovery by the way) BUT I LISTENED. I LEARNED I AM NOT ALONE.
My perspective changed when I remembered I was just fine going out in public to go to the store to buy the bottle of wine, just fine going in my car in public traffic and just fine seeing people in groups on my own terms, so I became willing to try AA.
