enthusiasm needed!

Hi all, I'm kind of new around here and today is (drum roll please) DAY ONE (again). I feel absolutely terrible with the hangover from my relapse/binge...that's a good thing because there has to be consequences to remember. I would love to hear about all the good things to expect when getting clean!
Thanks,
Amelia x

Welcome Home, Miss Amelia. I'm glad you made it back. Just remember that if you work this one moment, the next moment will come. Notice I didn't say one DAY at a time...a day can be an awfully long time -- welcome to the moment, my friend.

By the way...congratulations. over the past few moments, your only responsibility was to be reading this note. You succeeded!! Seriously, it sounds absurd...but I am not joking. You did it, Amelia..

The AA promises (it works if you work it...)

We are going to know a new freedom and a new happiness.

We will not regret the past nor wish to shut the door on it.

We will comprehend the word serenity and we will know peace.

No matter how far down the scale we have gone, we will see how our experience can benefit others.

That feeling of uselessness and self-pity will disappear.

We will lose interest in selfish things and gain interest in our fellows.

Self-seeking will slip away.

Our whole attitude and outlook upon life will change.

Fear of people and of economic insecurity will leave us.

We will intuitively know how to handle situations which used to baffle us.

We will suddenly realize that God is doing for us what we could not do for ourselves.

Amelia honey, you will feel in control of your life again, no matter what it may throw at you. You will be the one responding to it, weighing your options and making a decision. Like Slash said, just get through whatever period you can get through now, and when that period expires, get through the next period. Find ways of getting through those periods, even if it means napping, reading the boards, getting up every two minutes to do some nonsensical chore in the kitchen, etc. Whatever gets you through whatever period you can stand to think of. Don't think any further ahead than the period you can stand to think of.

A good thing that happened to me today when I woke up sober was that I said: "hey man you can have fun WITHOUT alcohol! Last night was cool. I laughed a lot with my friends"

I will try this new experience tonight at the Cinema.

Hello Amelia:

You joined in 2007 and you are at day 1 again ??!! Are you going to AA regularly ?

I think you may need direction rather than enthusiasm, you have to change your ways.

All the best.
