Going To Detox
I have made a decision to go to a detox inpatient treatment center within a week, the sooner the better, I have tried so many times to quit alcohol and xanax and can't do it on my own, I have never been to a detox place, can anybody tell me what ti is like? Kind of scared.

You are doing the right thing "Need to Be" and the sooner the better is 100% on target. Today you would be well to drop what you are doing, get on the phone or with someone who is going to help be get admitted and "Just Do It".
Following is soooo much harder than being lead; but now is the time to let others help you till you can help yourself. Right now we who have been there before will steer you in the right direction.
I have been to detox and what I remember the clearest were the relaxation tapes and exercises. They take it easy on you and then try to get you hooked uyp in a rehab...hopefully. Please be good to yourself. One day at a time.

They'll give you meds to de-tox. Check your BP, and send you to some meetings. There should be plenty of food for the taking, lot's of snacks always laying arond and 3 squares a day.
What I didn't realize when I de-toxed was that it wasn't going to help me stay stopped. I thought if I could just make it through that last withdraw, I'd never drink again. I was wrong. I was back out in about 6 weeks.
I would highly recomend a good solid recovery program. Most likely the "A' word. (AA). Nobody wants to go, I didn't. But it works, and my pre-conceived notions about it were wrong.

want to go as soon as possible, but I have to prepare my husband for it, such as how and when to pay bills and also have a 13yr old who will be starting school at the end of August and will basically give my husband instructions on certain things, I will need to make a list of everything for my husband cause I have always been the one to do certain things involving the household.

Iwas also wondering about evaluation, I knew someone who said they evaluate you to see what meds would help, this particular friend of mine is bi-polar and she found out her other doctor's were giving here the wrong medications. I have an anxiety disorder and panic attacks that is why I was prescribed xanax in the first place, will they be able to evaluate me and find a good antidepressant or some other med to help with my anxiety or whatever my mental problem might be?
when my daughter went into rehab, they gave her a good physical and she also met regularly with a pyschiatrist for meds. don't know about your detox place - can you call and ask/request?
blessings, k

Does anyone know if you are allowed to smoke cigarettes in detox, my guess is no, which it be the best as I want to quit anyway?

Detoxes vary on the smoking thing. Personally, if it were me (as a smoker) I would NEVER EVEN THINK about going to a detox where i couldn't smoke. F*** THAT! Quit LATER. You got enough to worry about kicking booze and benzos right now. But ... that's just MOI.
Congrats on your decision, I know you can follow through
You'll be thank yourself for having done it in the long run (short run ... maybe ... not so much ...) because ... you'll never know what might've happened had you NOT gone. Benzo's AND booze, either one alone can be dangerous to quit, as you know, so BOTH? Yeah, it's best to be monitored for sure. NO sense flirtin w/ disaster.
Best of luck to you, stick around and let us know how the prep is going, and for sure let us know when you're going so we don't miss you and can instead just send the love and prayers your way ...

needtobesober,
Yes, you made my day. You have made an important decision towards recovery. You will be able to safely withdraw from alcohol and Zanax...You will see that you are not alone with your feelings...I met many friends in Detox..

Goodluck needtobesober. It is good that you are goingt o detox if you are getting off zanax. They give you meds to help in the withdrawals. they send you to meetings, but if you are not feeling up to it they dont usually push you. They will also give you something to help you sleep , and plenty of food.
I wish you the best and will be waiting for you to come home and tell us how you are doing
