My First Thread
Well, this is my first thread. I happened onto this site while searching for meeting schedule and have spent the last couple of days just reading and trying to get some inspiration.
I have been clean for 20 days today, but I seem to be feeling worse than starting to feel better. I can't sleep - was awake all night last night and now I'm trying to fake it through the work day. If anyone has any advice I would welcome it.
Thanks.
J

Hi Lilybug,
Welcome and I'm glad you posted.
Congratulations on your 20 days clean. I know for me, stopping drinking was a big step, but only the beginning. There was a lot of work to do on myself and that's the journey I've been on ever since. What else are you doing in your recovery? And, try to be patient with yourself. You're doing great!

Goodmorning Lilybug!
20 Days is a WONDERFUL acheivement! This is a great place for support - do you have anyone you can talk to in person? friend/family/meeting?
Personally, exercise has helped me in the past - walking my dog, I've done yoga - it gives me something to occupy my time, and it helps me sleep better at night.
Welcome to SR - and is that your adorable baby?!

Thanks for the thoughts.
I'm in an "intensive outpatient program" through the rehab center I went to and on the other nights I've been going to NA meetings.
I was feeling really good until about day 14 when I think reality set in and I started thinking about all the crap that piled up while on was using(pain killers - perc/oxys). I can't seem to clear my mind, I've got all this garbage clanging around in there and can't seem to take it to the curb.
and yes that is my daughter.

Hi and welcome Lily.
Have you tried herbal teas or tablets to help you sleep? I tried some herbal tablets with Valerian root and other stuff in it and they helped. I was actually very surprised that they did!
Well done on the 20 days!

Lilybug,
Welcome to this great place loaded with support and useful information...Early sobriety is most challenging at least it is for me. Sleepless nights, and raw feelings of guilt are a part of early recovery BUT if you have a place to vent your feelings, a place to be around others that have felt like you, you will find that each sober day gets easier...

Hi Lily,
I'm also doing outpatient and NA. Last night we went over PAWS (Post Acute Withdrawl Systoms (syndrom?) One of the symptoms they went over with was Sleeplness being common at this point in recovery. I'm at 14 days today and am feeling a little shell shocked.
Have you guys gone over this? I found it helpful and interesting. You can Google PAWS and get a lot of info.
Good Luck!

I was thinking of trying the melatonin again. They gave it to me during my detox, but I wasn't sure if it worked or if I was just so tired from beating I put on body.
Can you get the valerian root anywhere?
Thanks to all for your support.

Hi Lilybug,
Yes you can get Valerian pretty much anywhere - health food stores or drug stores in the herbal section. Melatonin works well for me also, or even Sleepytime tea before bed.
Congratulations on your clean time, and on your beautiful baby. Just keep doing what you're doing (outpatient, NA, etc) , and this too shall pass.
