Thumbs up TOPIC: Where's Your Manual? At Home, Office, Car, Work? Don't Leave Home W/O One.

Hi Im Sharon and Im an Alcoholic.

By the grace of my HP and people
like you here in SR I havent had a
drink of alcohol since 8-11-90.

For that and you I am truely
grateful.

Ok, im guilty. I have a "manual"
and even tho it is very near to
me, i havent picked it up to read
it in awhile.

Manual. What manual?

The one we use to help us or
give us directions for fixing things.

A step by step instruction on how
to make what ever is broken work
better....

If you were a machanic on the road
and made house or road calls....would
you leave ur manual at home? I mean
how would you know how to fix the tire
or where to change the oil?

Same thing with Church...for those
that like to follow along....wouldnt
it e nice to have a bible in hand to
read along with the pastor or minister?

Same thing with recovery. Our "manual"
or Big Book of AA or NA is a step by step
instruction on how to stay clean and
sober a day at a time....

Everything is in there to help fix whatever
problems one may have in recovery.

And what a useful and helpful tool it is
for us to have on hand, right?

So where is urs? Is it collecting dust?
Is it stashed away in a drawer some-wheres?

Or do u have it handy to help you emmediately?

Maybe u have 6 manuals or more....one for ur
car. One for ur home. One for your office. One
for ur meetings.....maybe a few pocket size
manuals for just such emergencies?

You wouldnt leave home without ur instructional
manual for ur job so why not ur recovery manual.

Make sense to me...

Now all I have to do is practice what i preach...lol

Share ur ESH with us about ur recovery manual if
ud like.

Thanks for letting me share.

Sharon

The Big Book and 12 x 12 are on the passenger seat of my car. I have 2 BB studies and 2 12 x 12 meetings a week, so I never forget them.

The pocket version of both is next to my computer at home for quick reference while here

The "Big" Big Book is on the lamp stand next to my bed. I read that almost nightly.

I'm guilty of not picking mine up as often as I used to or probably that I need to
But for me it is the Big Book and 12 & 12. I also have a Life Recovery Bible which is really cool and it has lots of references to the steps and principles. My Big Book is not the "newest" version and simply because I have so many underlined things, highlighted things and many many things written in columns and margins etc. This from so many years of step studies and big book studies. Pages are falling out and it's a mess, but to me. . .it contains so much wisdom and basically. . .my life!!!

I have one copy of the BB at the office, my copy of 12 and 12 is in the car, my original copy of the BB is in my bedroom (which I do not read often enough), and I have meditation books in my bedroom. My bible is in my nightstand (I like reading the Psalms sometimes), and my journal is beside my bed.

Uh, I'm the 43 year old nerd who carries a backpack into all his meetings, inside are my BB, 12&12, How Al-Anon Works, and the self-help book I'm currently reading.
I leave my pile of daily meditation books at home.

Ooops, I forgot my daily meditation books. They're in the "reading room". I read them while the shower warms up in the morning.

Astro...I wouldnt have concidered you a nerd....not at
all....if anything, i have admiration for you and those
like you.

How can a plumber fix the sink or shower if he didnt have
his tools with him? He surely couldnt fix that leak by just
looking at it. He could try praying that it would stop by
itself ....but that wouldnt help...he needs his tools provided
to him to work on it...."Faith without works is dead".

Id think those precious "tools" "books of knowledge" have
the answers to help solve our common problem...

So when i see the person with his back pack of books
sitting at the table ready to learn more and im sitting
in the back...thinking i dont need my books ....well....
u get the picture......

What a shining example you are in recovery..!

Thank you Sharon, I was just making a little joke about being the nerd;-) How funny that I used to be a plumber, and never went anywhere without my tools.

Thanks for the inspiration.
