I am new

I am an alcoholic of several years. My drinking has become totally unmanageable and
my husband has left me temporarily because our home life has become a living hell due to my drinking. I finally went to my first AA meeting last nite. I got a sponsor right away and today I went to an AA potluck lunch. I am also going to another meeting
tomorrow. This is the first time I have reached out for help and it does feel great.
In the past 2 days I have met several wonderful woman. I feel I finally have some
new friends and the support that I have been needing for years.

This is my first day sober, July 1st 2007. I am scared to death. I am detoxing right
now and I'm DYING to drink. However, I will NOT.

I am joining this board because I need lots of support right now in my life and
probably for a long time to come. I am trying to take one hour at a time.

Thanks!

Welcome...
Wow! you are off and running.
Fantastic start!

It's always wise to see your doctor
and be honest before quitting abruptly.

Have you de toxed before?

Hi Sugarcoma,

Welcome! I wonder if you have talked to your dr about detoxing from alcohol.

I'm sorry about your separation but addiction is a disease that affects us and those around us. I'm glad you are taking steps towards recovery and moving forward. There is lots of support here, so keep posting.

Thank you all for the warm welcome!! I have a feeling I'll be posted here a lot as
I am going thru a hard time and need all the help, advice and support I can get.
None of the women told me that detoxing could be dangerous. They said I will
probably feel like hell the first 5 days. BUT, if I get worse or start feeling sick
I will go the the emergency room. I'm gonna see how I feel.

Hi sugar,
You're doing the right thing! It's always best to begin recovery and not wait. Just hang in there, even if it means doing it one minute at a time. The minutes will add up. Good luck and keep coming back to check in!

I totally understand what you are going through. It my first day sober too! Except, I'm not wanting a drink. I could gag at the thought of drinking right now. My problem is I'll forget how bad I feel and by Friday, I think I could handle it and I don't stop drinking till I pass out on Sunday night. But Thank God for this board. People here really care about helping people like us. They are my rock. Keep posting and reading. It really gives me strength.

And Sugar, my husband just told me this morning. If I keep this up, he's leaving me. I don't want to lose him. He's a great man. So I better get help. I pray you too can get better.

Welcome

Hi Sugar, glad to have you with us. You are doing the right thing: going to AA meetings, getting a sponser and posting here. Take it one hour at a time, it does get better.
