24 hour chip

Hi Everyone,

I still can't believe I did. I got my 24 hour chip. A lot of you heard me whine and worry about going back to the rooms. I was nervous at first but after the first 20 minutes or so it was like getting back up your bicycle and trying again. It was a small group that I went to. There was no more then 12 people. When i first walked in there was all men. I was the only woman. So I got wondering if it changed to a men's group or something. So I spoke up and asked and its for anybody. Well after the meeting got started 2 women walked in about 10 minutes later. Oh, and I even read the preamble where there wasn't many there yet. It's a lunchtime meeting so a few walk in after all the readings and chips. The funny thing was they asked me if I wanted to pass out the chips at first and i said no. They didn't know at first that I was picking up my 24 hour one. That's how I ended up with the preamble instead. The chip is pretty too, with 24 hours on one side and the serenity prayer on the other. I only knew of one group in my area that passed out these kind. All the other ones had poker chips. I'm planning on going again tomorrow. One of my old favorite ones is tomorrow night. Its a step meeting and a lot bigger. I'm not sure if I want to go to that one yet or not. I'm scared to go to the bigger ones yet. But I'm definitely going to the lunchtime one again tomorrow.

Awesome !!!!

I wouldn't recommend going back out, but those that do are welcomed right back in. We had a member disappear for a month. Turns out he was in re-hab for opiates (pain pills). Seizures and everything, He read the promises his first night back.

Pride is a funny thing.

Way to go, Barb! Every area does things a bit differently, as far as giving out chips/coins/etc. When I moved from North Jersey to the shore area, I was given a chip at the very first meeting I attended there...and, I already had 22 sober years...but, it did make me feel welcome, and gave me a reason to keep going to that meeting and making it my home group.

Thank God you made it back...not everyone does...count your blessings, One Day At A Time.

Hi Everyone, Today is day 2. I feel kind of blah today. No Ambition. Very tired. I didn't sleep well my last night of drinking where I was nervous about my Dr. apt. So far I haven't craved a drink today. I hope it stays that way.

Hi Barb,

I don't know you but I wanted to congratulate you on going to that meeting and getting your chip. I am on day 3 and I can relate to the fear and apprehension. Keep it up!

ADuck- Congratulations on Day 3.

Anna- I'm amazed that I haven't had a drink today. I feel like my higher power is with me and helping me, and I've been so mad at him for the last few years. I have been praying a little. Not like I use too. I've done the "Jesus help me" prayer and the serenity prayer and that's all I can do for now. I put the "Jesus help me" prayer on the christen forum latter tonight.

Funny how you get all worked up before you walk in, and after a few minutes it is like wearing an old pair of shoes. Congrats on your chip.
