Hi and Welcome to SR!
Yes I too had blackouts and they are scary.
They quit when I quit drinking.
Have you called your local AA and ask for a
ride? I have given people a lift to meetings
and now they do the same for me!
Keep in touch You too can stop.

one of my biggest worrys of quitting drinking, is whats gonna happen to my social life? I like going to BBQ's and get togethers, but there is always alcohol around...drinking is a really social thing for me. but when i do drink, i get drunk and black out. what other kind of things is there to do, besides getting together at the local bar?

Getting sober - and hanging out with sober people - you'd be amazed what else there is to do in life besides hanging out at bars.
I was worried about giving up friends/activities also, but eventually had to change some people I hung out with, and had to stop going to social events where alcohol was being served - I still choose to stay clear of these events, unless I have a good reason for being there i.e. wedding, family function etc.
Try not to look at it as giving up something i.e. alcohol and see it for the positive - you'll regain your health, some $$, self-respect etc - I'm sure you can add to this list. No more guilt, shame and remorse. No more blackouts! I don't miss those!

Wow, there are lots of other things to do!
You could take a course for fun or education, you could volunteer in your community and give your time to help someone, you could get together with friends for coffee, you could play sports or listen to music.
Follow your heart and be open to new experiences.
