Hi Im new and Im not sure how to start.
Hi everyone. I am new to all this. New to admitting that i have a problem even. I dont even know where to start on getting help. This looked like a nice place that could maybe help me get started at least. Im 28 yrs old a mother of 5 and an alcoholic. I never really saw a problem with my drinking before, and i use to say whats the big deal my kids dont see it cause i only drink at night. I had some kind of clarity moment and realized I am doing my children an injustice by being like this. I dont want them to grow up to turn to the bottle. And the fact is they are seeing me. They see me so sick I can barely get out of bed the next day. I want to be a mom they can be proud of and I want my husband to like me again. My drinking has gotten so bad to the point that I will drink a bottle of hard alcohol to myself a night. And wake up sick as can be and stay sick for days. Even develop fevers. How do I get over this need? where do I turn to? does anyone know? Any advice would be appreciated. Julie

Welcome, Julie!
If you can get to an AA meeting (Alcoholics Anonymous is in the phone book and you can find out the time and nearest location of a meeting), you'll receive all kinds of help from people who care. Each meeting usually also has pamphlets for you to take home to read, especially when the urge to drink comes along! Please try to attend as many meetings as you possibly can. And in between, I hope you will keep coming back here to share with us. You'll find love and good sharing here.
I made that call to AA, even though I was soooooooooooooooooo scared, and ashamed... I was desperate for help and didn't know where to turn until I saw and heard an AA commerical on T.V.! Talk about coincidence? I haven't seen another AA commercial since! I went to my first meeting and when they asked newcomers to introduce themselves (if they wanted to), I said my name and that I'm an alcoholic and need help!
My sobriety became the most important thing in my life, because to continue drinking
was a death sentence. To continue drinking makes life progressively worse, never better. Trust me on this.
As soon as you can, please get the Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous to start your journey towards the good life. You can do it. When urges come, try sucking on a lollipop, sip a cola or iced tea through a straw, practice deep, slow breathing. If you're given names and phone numbers from the members, do call!
Ask God (or whomever, whatever you choose to be your Higher Power) for strength and courage, and you shall receive it. Have determination, and faith in yourself, that you can accomplish anything!
I hope to see you back here again, okay? Let me know if you need one-on-one communication and I'll send you my e-mail address. You don't have to go it alone.
Hang in there.
Luv

Hi hunnibee, welcome, I to am a alcoholic almost 7 months sober.
I understand how frieghtened and scared you are right now.
I just want you to know it will be ok, having a problem with alcohol
is not the end of the world...You have a very manageable illness that with
help, support and commitment on your part, you can manage..
There is no one way to go about gainning sobriety for life. There is AA, you
might want to go see your doctor and get an evaluation and advice...but the
one thing I can reccomend that helped me to make a plan was educating myself
on alcoholism..Here is a link to exerpts from Under th Influence.

Hi Hunni
Welcome to SR!
The link Hope posted helped me too.
It took me ages to come to the full realisation deep inside me that I am an alcoholic so congratulations! That is a really big step and so is asking where you can get help.
We have found that we can stop if we do it one day at a time and we stick together. All you need to do is go to bed sober tonight. That's all for now.
People here suggested I try going to an AA meeting. People at AA made all sort of helpful suggestions.
Depending on the amount you have been drinking, stopping with medical help can be crucial. I suggest the first stop is to go and see a doctor who understands about alcoholism.
Don't go away! More of us will along soon to keep you company.
