One day is better than nothing I guess -

I feel silly about sharing this because it may be premature. I may loose my resolve tomorrow. But, the liquor store closes in 10 minutes and I'm not driving there. I just won't do it. (the regular stores here do not carry anything but low alcohol beer...)

I got pretty darn scared earlier today when I visited some medical websites and typed in the search words: alcohol related liver disease.

I already have some pretty clear evidence on my face: I've got some spider veins.
I have been drinking heavily for the last two weeks and I think my liver is enlarged. I'm at the age where I certainly would be a candidate for it: drinking for years and getting older.
Has anyone had any experience with an enlarged liver?
Just curious.

I was trying to make a decision just like yours on Tuesday of last week. I kept reading post after post here, then posted, and then made the decision. I'm now on day 7 and I'm here browsing, reading, thinking, and getting involved -- getting involved in something worthwhile.

Your fears about your health sound a lot like mine.

Good luck making your decision and hope to see you back here with a few then more days under your belt!

BTW -- Good for you, not turning around and rushing into the liquor store before it closed! That's a GREAT first step!!!!

Thanks! This site is really a good thing for me because I haven't started AA.
Good for your week!

Congrats on Day 1

Prehaps you should see a doctor about your liver...they have tests they can give you to determine if you have liver damage. I'm glad to have you here with us at SR. Keep reading and posting. Best wishes to you!

Yes, I have seen a doctor before about this about 10 years ago and my live-r was okay then, but, I estimate that my alcohol consumption has tripled by now.

it's recommended to see a doctor, and be honest about your use and plan to quit. detox can be risky..

keep coming back! k

I agree. Not getting medical advice or attention from alcohol detox is very risky.
And day 1 is where everyone starts.
It dont get better than that. Because it is a start.
Good luck.

As you have already been reading on liver malfunctions...
you probably know that abstinence is recommended.

So...what is your next step?
:)

For me....my liver was not the problem
My long term depression is why I began AA recovery.

My fun bottles were gone....and still I drank.

Here is a link full of information
excerpts from the book that convinced me to quit drinking

Littlefish, good for you on one day! I know the feeling of just plain refusing to go to the liquor store, even though I knew that in waiting, I would give up the drinking that day. It might be anxiety-inducing during the moment, but day one is very powerful and shows a great amount of strength.
Keep posting, especially if you feel yourself losing your resolve.
