Can the "steps" help with withdrawl?

I've heard people talk about having problems with cravings, insomia or anxieties that found a way to remedy these problems by doing the "steps". Does this work for everyone or for most people? I've been getting some cravings lately, but, thats not my major problem. Its sleeping. I still struggle with insomia now and then, even after 50 days of being abstinent. I been told to go to AA meetings which I've attended twice and was planning to go yesturday but something came up. Do I need a sponsor to do the steps?

I dont know that much about the steps, but i would like to know more.

I just wanted to congratulate you on 50 days. I crashed and burned after 104 days.
I think it is because I didnt go to meetings. So even though I was able to get clean for awhile I wasnt able to maintain it without some support.
Im gonna start looking for a sponsor whether you need them for the steps or not.
Ive learned the hard way I just cant do this alone
Wishing you the best

yes of course..
I couldn't handle those withdraws or urges..becuase i relaped over and over
again even after attending meetings for over 6 months..

somewhere alone the the line i came to belive there has to be a HP
gearter than me that can restored me to sanity..becuase those damn
urges drove me crazy...As corny as it might had seem to me at first..
i had a chioce of doing things the old way or being corny..
f-it, I gave up and I got corny ....
I asked a hp to remove my urges and those terrible feelings..
i didn't really understood god or a hp power..i just couldn't
carry on like that, being sober. And i had to stay sober becuase
drinking and using wasn't working anymore..
Poeple told me i didn't have to fight it anymore..i just had to let go

It totally blew my mind, becuase those urges got removed instantly.
then a couple of hours later...i get another urge to use...So I did
the samething everytime a get an urge to use.
I let go and trun over my urges to use.

that's the way it came to me...i was actually applying the steps
without even relizing it. It works if you work it...i guess..

So i basically apply the same principle when i feel crazy or get into a wierd
zone..my anxitey or some funk I'll get into...
I let go of those funks...and ask my HP to remove them...becuase I can't
handle living like that..it drove me crazy...
Instanly those funk gets removed...
So everytime i get into a funk...i do the samething.
that's the way it works for me..

Withdraw is physical. The steps aren't gonna help ya with that.

The questions is, after withdraw, what are you gonna do ? I always thought all I had to do was make it through the shakes & pukes & I'd be OK. Wrong. I was always drinking again within days or weeks.

After you de-tox, go to AA, get a sponsor, and start working the steps. It changes the way you live and think, and you no longer need booze to cope with life. It's a wonderful feeling !

In a word - yes.

It's worth it. Do it.

way to go on 50+days!!!

My sponsor, when asked when someone should start working the steps, replied, "As soon as they stop shaking!" A doctor can help with the physical stuff. The steps will definitely help with the rest.

nts, peace of mind, body and soul is what recovery is all about for me...

the steps helped loads with obtaining that...

two meetings in my early recovey would of never brought me to where i am today...

it was suggested 90 meets in 90 day... well if 90 was good 100 would be better right i said... in this case, the "mores" were better... lol

it was also suggested by a wise elder... the work one puts into early recovery, paves the way for the rest of ones life...

the urges, are just a few fleeting thoughts today... after all, i'm a alk'y...

good wishes nts...

xxoo, rz

I think I did something like 130 in my first 90 days ... something like that.

3 a day two days a week, two a day most other days ...

Detox first, rehabs work best for me. The steps will make you take care of the rest of your life. You have no idea how much your life will change, no idea!
Good Luck,

newtosobriety,
Yes, I would agree that the steps don't help with detoxing, but they help some of us maintain our sobriety. Going to AA meetings is also a good thing, as many as you can. Lots of people insist they need to go every day, and if you can make the time, it's a good idea. A sponsor is also helpful, but it can be hard to find a good one for you. You can do the steps anytime, anywhere.
