Topic: Would You Like To Share The Message You Heard at Your Meeting Today? Hi Im Sharon and Im an Alcoholic. By the Grace of my HP and people like you here in SR I havent had a drink of Alcohol since 8-11-90. For that and you I am truely grateful. Would you like to share the message of what you heard at your meeting today with SR? Sometimes there will be days that you can't make a meeting and you wished you could. So you call a friend and ask what was the topic at the meeting was and what did people talk about.... Most of the time when we hear what we need to hear can actually help us thru lifes up and down...it helps us cope as we go thru the many changes in our life. When I go to a meeting i hear lots of good excouraging things and if i can take at least one thing away with me for that day and apply it to my life then that is great. Last nights speaker meeting was a good one....I learned that it doesnt matter how much "Stuff" we have in life... cars, house, family, money, education... non of that mean a thing if we dont believe our primary purpose in life is to stay clean and sober by helping the next person stay clean and sober by sharing our own ESH with them. And that makes sense to me.... And on that note what did hear today at ur meeting.... What was the message? Thanks for letting me share. |
Hi SR... Ive been making a few meeting lately...kinda getting back into the routine of going like i use to before i moved to Houston 10 yrs ago. Lets see I went to one Saturday afternoon which was a beginners meeting, the one on Sunday which was a speakers meeting , then today at noon which was a birthday meeting.... Today there were something like 8 chips handed out for various lengths of sobriety....a pretty awesome meeting if i should say so... :) I was thinking about how much AA means to me and how when i was living in Houston how much i wanted to be back here at home...going to my meetings...having a place that felt a part of.... Seems as tho AA has had a stronger hold on me more so than my marriage....sad of course to say... There was a man i sat by today celebrating his one yr sobriety....he had his wife to join him and a brother to give him his chip who had something like 17 yrs sobriety... It was funny because before his wife showed up....someone thought i was his other half...then as we stood to say the Prayer...the lady next to me wanted to congratulate me thinking it was the mans other half recieveing a chip....lol I quickly said no that i was his friend. haha I love AA because of the warmness and kindness of strangers we dont even know and yet we are all in those rooms for one common purpose.. To stay sober ODAAT. :) |
thanks for sharing Sharon and for starting this thread. Sharing and recognising the similarities we alcoholics have is comforting to the newcomer and to the rest of us alike. I heard in my meeting that anything that works for the newcomer that keeps them from drinking on a daily basis is good. This should without delay lead to the program of A A and to our primary purpose; to carry the message. keep the posts coming. |
Curious What does ESH stand for? |
The last two topics of discussion I heard in mtgs. were these: 1) Sea Changes-what are the monumental changes you've made in your life 1) We learn to practice detachment (I'm in Alanon) but what about ATTACHMENT? what are the ways to keep attached to our alienated addicts that have been hijacked by their use? |
I wasn't able to make a f2f meeting, but found an online chat service that has meetings. Since I was a "newbie" and there was a few others like me as well, the chair had the meeting on the first step. I listened and shared, and learned that this isn't a fight I have face alone (which is what I believed because of the type of person I am) That was hard to realize, but I am glad I did. |
Thanks guys for your shares....that means alot to me as well as being very helpful. ESH stands for : Experiences, Strengths and Hopes When u share ur ESH with me and others, u r sharing what it was like when u were drinking or using and what happened to you ... and what is it like now that u r in recovery.... Doing this gives others hope for recovery. Not only are you helping urself stay clean and sober but u r helping others who need to know that they are not alone and that they have you and I to follow in our footsteps of recovery. |
