New - Newly sober and New to this Website
Hello all,
I came across this community recently and very grateful. I'm newly sober - celebrating approximately 4 months this time. I've been trying to get sober approximately 2 years. I'm one of those chronic relapsers. I've not been able to make it more than 60 days, so finally making it past that is progress.
I've been in and out of detox, treatment centers and AA. I feel like finally things are coming together. My drinking was horrible. At the end, I was drinking staight liters of vodka daily. I crave drinking - I just don't want the bad after effects, and believe me, it's always bad. Nothing good ever comes from my drinking spells.
I just recently received some tapes from Sister Maurice. Is anyone familar with her or other speakers? I enjoy listening to her and wondering if there are other good speakers that use humor to help explain the experience, strength and hope?
Please let me know.
thanks.

Welcome aboard, shotgun203. We're glad you're here. Congrats on your sober time so far! Two more months and you'll reach the first major landmark--6 months. But for many, like myself, every single day during the first few months is a major accomplishment.
Hi Shotgun
Way to go, 4 months is great, keep working hard.. A good speaker on this subject is Father Joe Martin. He has a rehab center named after him( Father Martins Ashley) He produced a series of videos titled "Chalk Talk" . They were produced years ago, but very entertaining and informative. He makes understanding this complex disease a lot easier for us non Phd people. Also read "Under the Influence"
it is good as well.

Hi Shotgun, and Welcome. Four months is fantastic, I can only aim for a goal like that... I'm still counting days on my fingers. Vodka was my choice of escape as well - until I recently got to a 26'er a night, plus a horrid "Panic Breakdown" that wound up nearly destroying two other people's hearts.
That there IS a God has been proven to me, because they are still willing to forgive me... whether I deserve it, or not.
I guess I haven't "earned the stripes" to urge you to keep it up, but I will anyway.
