I have been reading these forums for awhile now and I think everyone here is so supportive and special people.I am posting now because I feel I need help and I'm an alcoholic. I am 42 years old and I drink at least 6 beers a day more on weekends. I want to quit and have tried several times for as long as 5 days. My biggest challange is my husband drinks just as much and I don't think he want's to quit and he buys the beer and brings it in the house. How do you quit in this kind of situation with alcohol always in the house. I don't think it's possible. Any suggestions would be so helpful. I really want to quit and need help.

Welcome and I'm glad you found us.

You can quit drinking and there is lots of support here. It would be easier if you didn't have alcohol in the house, but you can do it. It's something you have to do for yourself, whether or not your husband is drinking.

Take a look around and read and you'll find lots of information.

Hiya Destinee1!! It is possible but it sure isnt easy. My sponsor sobered up in the same situation. Her husband still drinks everyday.

In my group are many dealing with drinking partners
who are still staying sober.

Our situations do sound similar. I am 46 and have had a drinking problem for 5+ years. When I quit I was drinking approximately 2/3 of a 5th of Vodka, not every night, but alot of them. I have NEVER drank at work. Vodka was getting to where it really made me sick (which in a sick way I welcomed!) My in-laws are alcohol pushers and they will tell me, "come on, have one, just one won't hurt you." Well, just one what? A drink - a 5th, they are the same to me and what got me here. I cannot remember my last sober week-end, but here we go. We can chat on Monday with our success! ! ! ! !

My sponsor says 40 something is the magic age when we get serious about recovery.

I am 42 and most of our extended family and friends are alcohol pushers also. I have been drinking a little longer than you and every weekend was usually a big drunk. I drank during the week also but not as much.Yes, that would be great to chat of our success on Monday! Good Luck to you.

Welcome Destinee! i wish you all the luck in the world. theres a lot of support here, it has helped me greatly! i am facing the same obstacle of it being my first sober weekend hanging out with friends....last weekend i was holed up in my apartment away from everyone going through detox.
