Hi Everyone. I have been reading your posts for a few days and I decided to join in. I am so glad I found this. I have three and a half months sober and am all alone as I just moved from the city to a new town and am way back in the woods. It's great to be so far away from crack and alcohol, but fear and guilt and shame are paralyzing me! As they say, my mind is out to get me. I am afraid I won't get through this. Don't get me wrong, I am SO GRATEFUL to be sober. Is this normal?
Hi red & welcome
congrats on your 3 1/2 mths, it is normal to have those emotions. Are you on a programe of recovery and now out of the ratrace are you keeping yourself busy so as not to give your mind time to wander back.

Hi Red Welcome.
Great job on 3 1/2 months.
Can't wait till I can say even 1 month.
So I am on day 4 of being sober so I really cant tell you what is or isnt normal emotionaly.
But I wanted to welcome you and there will most definately be alot of responses coming your way through out the day.
I live far from that crap too.
Was the best thing that ever happened to me.
Being back in the woods brings peice of mind to me. I dont know where in the world you are but it is snow up to our ears here. But as the weather gets nice the country is so peaceful and serene. I like to sit on my deck and just listen to my surroundings. Plus you can blast your music and nobody cares.
Good Luck and keep coming back. This board is great and very helpful.

Hi RedLady,
Welcome and I'm glad you found us. SR is my lifeline too and I love it.
Shame and guilt paralyzed me too for a long time at the beginning of my sobriety. The thing is that by allowing it to overwhelm me, it caused me to relapse many times before I finally could stop. You might find that writing down your negative thoughts will help you to be rid of them. I did that in a journal which ended up taking most of a year. At the end of the year (thanks to advice from a good friend here) I burned it.

Thank you so much for your responses. You guys are the best!! I feel better already just having gotten my feelings out. It is so nice to know that someone understands.
I do keep a journal. I picked up a copy of The Artist's Way (in my search for a Higher Power) at a recovery store in the city and am doing morning pages where I write three pages the minute I wake up. It helps me get in touch with myself.
Thank you all.

Red is my favorite color... I think its the Italian
in me...
I was 6 yrs sober when i relocated to Houston
with my little family...I felt paralized as u r feeling
now....scared out of my mind....but i found those
AA meetings and tried to go and most of all found
AA online....i didnt find SR until a yr ago but i have
always been connected to AA online as my life line
to sobriety.
This place here in SR is AMAZING to me....the support,
kindness, caring, understanding that u recieve from
people you dont even see, but their words r profound....
With each post and with each reply we all seem to
relate to how each one is feeling or what each is
going thru...so no one has to feel like they are alone
in their struggles...
SR has come thru for me many times and I try to let
them know in some way my appreciation and graditude
for all their help....
Just keep coming back and share whatever is on ur
mind because someone will be around shortly to share
their own experiences strengths and hopes with you and
ME.

A big welcome to you...congrats on your thirty-five days sober..
Fear and guilt are my skeletons in my dark closet. They can be all consuming....These emotions I need to work on everyday. By working, I mean learning to forgive myself.
We are happy you are here...keep posting!
