OK, hell has officially frozen over.......
I finally went to my 1st AA meeting tonight. It was great. I got there about 30 minutes early and met several people outside and inside. I've never felt so welcomed in my life. I got 8 phone numbers, and many people told me to call them anytime I needed anything. I'm going to try to go to a meeting every day for a while. They really made me want to go back.

Irv,
The warmth and friendship that you experienced will melt the icicles in hell.
I looked for meetings in my area. The closest NA is 90 miles away and the closest AA is 30 miles. Really sucks. Gas is too high to be traveling like that. So wht else could I do. I hear so many good things abotu these meeting.
Also I am nervous they may be in the same area where I get my drugs. What to do?

for me the question would be; what lengths did I go too get out of it? I will go that far to get better.

Good morning everyone. It is truly a wonderful thing to get a good night sleep and wake up without a hangover. I'm going to try to go to a meeting every day for a while. They made me feel so welcomed, I'm really looking forward to it.
irv... good for you...
a meeting a day, helps keep the rat away...
and chiynita, maybe start your own meet'n... just a thought...
it only take two peeps, a book, and some mutual hope...
irv, good wishes...

that is great, you can do it! just be sure to use the numbers if you need to, it seems to me that when i need to talk to someone most, it is usually a time i don't want to talk to anyone, i just want a drink. glad it went well.

Get to that meeting 30 miles away, and let it be known you're "new" and would like to try to hook up with others for rides to the meeting. I'll bet you'll find several who travel a distance to get there, and you can share the expense. BTW...how much did you spend daily/weekly to get high/drunk? I'm thinking it was probably much more than a tank of gas...right?
