I'm a newbie

Hi everyone. I am a crack addict seeking recovery. I am scheduled for admission to treatment for the first time ever next week. I first started smoking pot at 12 years old. Then powder cocaine LSD at 14. And crack at 18. Ever since then it's been all crack all the time. I am now 31. I have never sought help before because I thought it was bull****. I'm getting too tired and old for this insanity and can finally admit I can't do it alone. Someone told me to find a recovery chat site to kill the time while I wait to go to treatment. So here I am. Thank you.

Welcome. My DOC was alcohol but like many of us I have tried a bit of everything.

There is great support here, hang in there and don't drink or use.

Hi chiynita . Good decision you made to get help. This place is full of info ... lots to read. Here's a link to the substance abuse section of the forum :http://www.soberrecovery.com/forums/substance-abuse/ But you're fine posting here .

Asking for and getting help isn't BS... it's the beginning of stopping the BS that's causing the insanity.

hello there chiynita. you story sounds like my life. i too started smoking pot at around 13 beer was next powder followed then crack. not to meantion pcp lsd u name it. i was always looking for an excape. i had to move out of california because of my addiction. kansas seemed like a nice step i wanted to quit. i still drank and smoked pot but never touched crack again untill about 6 months ago when i moved into my new place alone. what a mistake that was. i was married had a house and new born son. wife couldnt take my drinking (who would) so we divorced. soon after that i started smoking crack. its a very bad demond. i stayed away from it for about 13 years. but was still using booze and pot. its all the same now i know. if you think u can quit crack and still smoke pot your really kidding yourself. i know i did. we are all addicts here we think like that lol.. im glad you are taking the biggest step of your life. learn from there and use the tools they give you. i hope all the best for you. stay safe... jason

Thank you..I can't believe how much support there is . My family is very supportive also. I use to always be scared that admitting I had a problem and seeking help made me weak. But it was weak of me to think otherwise.

Hi Chi, actually not admitting to the problem

is partly because of the old myths of alcoholism.

The majority of people still view alcoholics as weak,

psychological msfits, and hey, who wants to admit

to that, not me...but we do know now that alcoholism is

a physiolocigal, and neuralogical addiction usually passed on

genectically..

Glad you are doing well, hope3

Thank you. I have a question tho. My grandfather was a big time alcoholic. He started drinking as kid and ever since I can remember he drank all day everyday. I mean he use to keep a case of beer next to his chair. Get up in the middle of the night and drink. You couldnt tell he was even drinking most of the time.
Anyway..He is dead now...rest his soul..But I remember he went a whole day without any alcohol and he got so sick. He was white as a ghost and puking. It was bad. It was like if he did stop drinking he would die. Funny tho when he died not one thing wrong with him physically or health wise from drinking.

Oh and Rusty if you see this. I am sorry lol..but I really need to know what exactly that is behind that zipper.
