Not missing the St. P's drink fests

Good morning all,

It's quiet on the board this morning.... just thought put out whats on my mind.. yesterday my town officially kicked off St. Patties week... oh so you didn't know it lasted a whole week... Well is starts with the parade the Saturday before St. P day than it's back to the bar(s)... slosh home and more Irish bands on Sunday... drink all week for the final celebration on the 17th and than on the 18th it wraps up with bag day, that's when you go to the bar with a paper bag over your head... cut out the eyes for seeing and the mouth... gotta polish off the green beer..... any way I guess I am being a bit vicious I used to be there doing that.... it's quite amazing how we look a things so differently when we are the outsider looking in... So glad I'm here.... no mo hangovers fo me....

Good post NYCGirl.
St. Patrick's Day here in Boston is a mess. I used to hate it. All these amateurs invading my bar and screwing up my drinking. Not this year!

Hi NYCGirl, I won't miss the festivities here but more importantly I won't miss the hangover.. It is quiet around here. I should get off my butt and do something but don't feel like it.

LOL, St. Patricks day has never been a "party time" for us. ...more like "oh, yesterday was st. patricks day? oops I didnt wear green".

For me, I guess 4 of july, thanksgiving, christmas, & new years has been party time. I'll just take them one day at a time

Hugs!

Right On! Every day is reason to celebrate now...and, we don't have to get sloppy, stinkin' drunk to do it! Isn't it grand!?!

BTW...anybody have a St. Patrick's Day "story" to share...that's if you can remember one!

NYC,
Yeah we have the self-proclaimed "Largest Irish Festival in the U.S." Being Irish, it's a bit near and dear to me and it's on a daggone Sat. this year of all things! I found myself switching the channels on the radio coming home from the gym..."$1.00 beer at the largest party in...zzzt...Come join us for green beer and celebrate...zzzt...Happy hour with never be the same this St. Patty's day with..." That's all I could take, had to throw in a CD, why is it that every station has commericials the same time?

Stone,
Going to rehab, that's outstanding! Have you been staying sober?

St. Patrick's has never been a celebratory day for our family so nothing changes. I don't even know if there are any parades local to me that's how much I care.

Stone,
That's great man! You're going to be head and shoulders above the others when it comes to learning about yourself and the disease. I'm so very happy for you!!!

(Sidebar: I entered rehab with more than a 12 pack in the ole system)

Sorry for the St. Patty hijack, there always after me lucky charms.

PR

Hmmm.... St. Patrick's day... got my nose busted at the parade in South Boston one year.. right in front of the police station...not that great a memory...HOWEVER... my wife will celebrate 20 years of continuous sobriety on the day after St. Patrick's Day. God is good.

My old bar gets packed so you can't move. It goes for the whole weekend. Not this year. I'll be home alone watching tele. Can't get a hangover from that!

I used to love to go out with my girlfriends from work and "tie one on"...they were Irish...I wasn't...but, so what!?!

One year, I thought I'd be real cute and drink green creme de menthe on the rocks all night. Whoooooo---eeeeee! What a sick, sick hangover! I must have thrown up green for days!

When the kids were little, we would never miss taking them to the St. Patrick's Parade, because (of course) we were such good parents. We would sit them bundled up on the curb, while we watched from the storefront window of the Stagedoor Pub across the street! Weren't we the greatest!?!

I was never much for the parades, who would want to march around with a bunch of drunks..... much better to fall of a bar stool next to one lol...

Not even a desire lurks to be there...
