Question TOPIC: You're At The Grocery Store. The Wine/Beer Isle Is Near. What Will You Do ?

Hi Im Sharon and Im an Alcoholic.

By the Grace of my HP and people
like you here in SR. I havent had
a drink of alcohol since 8-11-90.

For that Im truely grateful.

Topic: You in the Grocery Store and
ur nearing the beer and wine isle.
What are you planning to do?

Does the voices in ur head....that so
called "committee meeting" say to u
to avoid that isle with all those
"pretty bottle" or does it say that
it's ok to go down there?

For me when im there...i see the isle...
and i know whats down there....
lots of good stuff....sure that little
voice in the back of my mind says...

"No one will ever know if u bought
something and drank it. Right?"

NO ONE WILL EVER KNOW.....

Some powerful words....

This choice is between me, myself
and I on what to do....The decision
on what to do relys on the maintanance
of my program I have been working.

16 yrs sober....doesnt mean dittly squat
if im not working a good program....

I have a weakness for alcohol....yet
I know there is never enough of it
to quenche my thirst..to satisfy my
craving for it.....

All the things I have learned over the yrs
has been etched in my brain....my mind....
my gut...

All the meetings Ive gone to was actually
like putting stock in the bank, so if the
tempatation arises then I can draw off
of that ESH and knowledge and tools
of recovery to save my butt one more
time from drinking.

My disease of alcoholism is CUNNING BAFFLING
AND POWERFUL and can disquise its self, can
tempt me, can lure me, can trick me...it wants
me to fail, fall, get drunk...hurt others, myself...

But JUST FOR TODAY I not giving in....Not No
but H*** NO....

So when i go to the grocery store and tempation
is there waiting on me...i will avoid it by all
cost...because I know that ...TO DRINK IS TO DIE.

Thanks for letting me share.

Thumbs up

Thank you Gypsy Tears for ur share....

I use to go and try not to look down that isle....
yet u know its there...no and if or buts about it...right?

U pretend u dont see it...u glance right quick and emm-
ediately look away....

Then one day u go in...u see that isle...and you know
whats there...and thoughts pop in ur head...its un-
aviodable....u cant help it....we r only human....

So u quickly walk away or u stop and think these
disturbing thoughts....u recall what it did to u...good
and bad....which one weighs more...the bad times
when u lied about ur drinking...when u had a horrible
accident where i hit a concrete culvert sitting on top
the ground spending 10 in the hospital....

What about wanting to check out of life with left over
pills....just with in months of each other.

Remembering when family did an intervention on me
sending me to rehab for 28 days via the backseat of a
police car....ashamed, hurt, angry...totally pissed...

Then u say to urself....do i want to go thru all that
crap and anguish again?

Is it worth it?

Then the sooner u get far away from that isle the better
u feel... WHEW..!

Another successful trip to the grocery store and I
didnt buy booze nor drank...

No alcohol in the grocery stores here. I live in New Jersey... lucky me .

I have lived other places where it is available like that though. Silly me... I used to think it was a good thing .

At our local grocery store, the milk and dairy products, and crackers/cookies are in the same isle, so it's unavoidable for me. But I just pass the beer and on to the other stuff. Did it today, and it didn't bother me too bad. It entered my mind, that i spent a lot of time there and felt weird passing it up, but I did it

Good shares Gypsy ..... and I am TJ

I use work at a Houston Grocery store
for 5 yrs....believe me..if I were squirrelly
in anyway around alcohol I surely wouldnt
have worked there....

I wore my sheild and armed myself everyday
just in case....

Every once in a while I was asked to go
"face" the wine bottles...ugh...so i would
quickly run down the isle facing the bottle
forward....sure, some bottle looked pretty
and some brought back memories....but
I also knew what was in those bottle....

TROUBLE & POISON....

I also remember a customer dropping a wine
bottle and I was asked to clean it up....YIKES..!

The smell was soooo over whelming...just like
something extremely potent....strong...nauseas

Anyway....We know we cant just make the beer
and wine isle dissappear because there r many
"Normal"folks that can drink successfully...

Me I can't nor ever will...

I still need to eat and i still need to shop....so
arming urself with the Serenety Prayer and wear
blinders when u get close to that isle...lol helps....

Just dont run into anyone....

Mostly these days I woul not notice it or the bottle shops (liquor stores) and if I do its just a reminder that I need to do some work on me. Back to the day and focus on Now.

I live in Jersey but go down to Florida a lot, at home we don't have beer or wine in the supermarket, so it is hard for me in Florida especially since it is a vacation when I am there... so I avoid the isle at all costs

I don't shop the aisles that carry items
I have no interest in purchasing.

Why on earth would I?

It hasn't bothered me. Just as easy as passing up the female hygeine aisle for me (I'm a single guy). Nothing in there I need.

I just added up all my 2006 receipts for WINE! LOL... I walked into the store the other day... got a water... looked at the beer and wine... just smiled... 9 days of sobriety... When I think about drinking the FIRST drink... I have to play out the drinking to my last drink... which always spells TROUBLE! Works for me! Love AA and my new brothers and sisters. Life sober is awesome.

I can walk down that aisle because the dairy is on the other side, doesn't mean I have to pick up the beer.

Last week I went to the liquor section looking for coconut milk. Waste of time, it was in the Asian food aisle;-)

Still, I don't go into liquor stores to buy a can of soda!

Like Gypsy, we don't have wine inour stores. That was my favorite.
But i did drink beer too.
Not anymore..Now when I pass the beer (on the way to frozen foods) sometimes I catch a look, I don't really think anything about it, other than, the thought of no, thats not for me anymore........lol hope3

We live in a drinking society, and we are going to be around it. If we can't because of the thoughts and fears that go along with it then we need to look at ourselves. We don't have alcohol in grocery stores here, however I live on the state line where there are 4 liquor stores within a mile of my house. I go to one to buy cigs because they are cheaper. I go in get the cigs and leave. I don't hang out or visit with anyone.

I know sit at my mom's on the computer where she has a full liquor cabinet, and am not bothered. Today I am free, I can go where I want when I want so long as I am fit spiritual health. When my spiritual health starts to decline, and the committe in my head gets busy, then it's meeting time, sponsor time, or help some else time.

Alcohol surronds me here. Seems every where you go (convinence stores, grocery stores, resteraunts) When i see it I just try to think of as Poison. Because that is what it is. They may put it in a pretty package, but it does not change what is in side.
