Trying to get a new lease on my life

Hi Everyone. I go to my first AA meeting tomorrow. I finally gave up my way of trying to control my life and gave it to a higher power. I'm very scared right now and very alone. My husband walked out on me Friday. My mother passed away in November of 2006 and I want a drink so bad right now. It's my time... 6:00 p.m... I'm sad.. hurt... scared to death. I have not been a meeting yet but my best friend is taking me tomorrow. I can't drive because of suspended license, yea... DWI. Any suggestions on how to fight this urge to drink until I can get to a meeting?

Thanks ya'll!

This is my first day on the board. The only advice I can give is to keep reading all of these threads. They will encourage you, sadden you, scare you and keep you away from the bottle.

Just keep reading.

Hi and Welcome!

Keep busy...drink a lot of water..eat small light meals
caffeine will make you jittery..aspirin for aches
OJ + Honey is good for the shakes.

Be gentle with yourself...walking is good
I also find praying works.

Did you talk to your doctor about your decision?

Carol gives good advice.

You're on the right track though. Immerse yourself in AA and things will change for the better.

Hi, Usually we subscribe to the ''One day at a time" theory, but in your situation, maybe take each hour without as a victory. Then string some hours together, which will turn into days. Right now you need to keep your eye on the ball. Believe me it does get easier, but it is a slow process. The reward are SO worth it.

Keep coming back.....NED
