Cravings and questions
Hi,
Looks like I have a problem. Stopped once before but started back "moderatly". The moderatly led to binges that I am ashamed of. Do the cravings go away, and if so how long does it take once...

Hi and Welcome,
Yes, the cravings will go away eventually. It will probably take awhile before you stop feeling cravings, but it depends on each person and what else you are doing in your life to move forward. I had to make many other changes in my life besides stopping drinking.

Hi,
Just my 2 cents...
I found in the initial days after stopping drinking I craved a lot... however, what I have learned is that the longer I go without a drink the less the cravings occur. More to the point, when they do occur now, it is more just a passing thought... "Gee, I could sure use a drink" or "Gee, it'd be nice to have a drink"... then again, I also remember "Drink, bad, causes me all sorts of trouble including:
- Muddled thinking
- Sickness
- Hurting stomach
- Unhappiness and depression
- Sore throat
- Headaches
- Fatigue
- Shame
- Loss of memory
- Being broke all the time
- Indigestion
- Belching non stop
- Being unable to eat
- Isolating myself b/c of shame or concern of what I might do
- Etc.
And I can have all that for what... a brief period of sorta oblivion? It isn't worth it. Thanks but no thanks.
Peace, Levi

The craving is the first to pass and it usually does not take the long, about 3-4 days for me, the mental obsession can last a long time if you are white knuckling it. With me the mental obsession was the biggest problem, sitting around thinking about a drink, the craving kicked in the second I had a drink, because once I had one my body screamed for another, then another........
Breaking the overall cycle of craving-obsession-craving-obsession was hard at first, the craving for me was the easiest, do not have that first drink and in 3-4 days the craving is gone, but the obsession in my head rages.
The steps in AA along with the fellowship and my HP are what removed the obsession. Don't get me wrong, I still on occasion think about drinking, but it is a passing thought and not my primary focus.
