New here and at a serious crossroad.

Hello. I have been reading the posts and gleaning information and I thought I should stop in and say hi and ask for help. Until September, I had been an assistant pastor for 4 years. 4 sober years after 5 years of heavy drinking. I stopped cold turkey one day in December 4 years ago December 11. In May, thinking I had this beat, I slipped up and blew it big time. I dropped my guard and had a drink of Vodka. THis has led to a serious slide down a bad hill. I was fired in September for looking at inappropriate things on my computer at work. I have not been able to find a job since and am drinking almost every night. Never really heavily, but enough to make my wife want to leave me and take my son. I am seriously thinking about going to a year long Christian Rehab. We are moving in with her parents and they are being very helpful and understanding. I am scared to death about the thought of being separated from my wife and child for a year, but even in my sober years, I was still angry as heck and had other serious emotional problems. Does anyone know anything about these type of programs and their effectiveness. How about their ability to council on emotional problems. I know thay are all different, but as a rule, has anyone here had success with one of these programs. I need to make this decision quickly and it is a big one. I will take any and all suggestions for this huge hole I now find myself in.

Welcome to SR!

No...I have not been to a treatment center.
It was not possible for me when I began AA recovery.

I think it is a wise move because..
your wife and son will be in a good place
you will have time to address your situation
you are not working so this is a good chance
for a new beginning.

You can return as a healthier man.
The years ahead will be so much happeir
for you and your family.

JMO

Blessings

I am sorry for your situation. I have no experience with that type of program either, but if you feel that you should do it, then I hope you will.

Thumbs up

Hey GAbound ----

Although I did not go through any rehab/treatment program, and I'm assuming that one of your issues, in addition to alcoholism, is an addiction to porn (forgive me if I'm off-bse here), and I don't have any experience in that, I think I may have a couple of suggestions for you as to where you may want to look..... (o:

First off, there is a Forum on this site under the heading of "All About Recovery" called "Christians in Recovery" You might want to go to that forum and ask your questions there; they may have some folks who share your issues and/or have information that could help you, both now and in finding some Christian rehab/treatment program.....

Next.....there are a couple of websites that I will 'pm' to you, as I don't know what the 'rules' here are about posting websites, but for me it's a tad bit rude to be advertising for other sites while on a site....but these two sites are specific to you ---- one is for Christians in Recovery and the other is Celebrate Recovery for Christians who struggle with ALL types of issues and hang-ups.....we have a Celebrate Recovery group at the church I attend; you might also call around to local churches regarding this; that might also help you find some help for yourself....I know a lot of churches don't even like to consider recovery from 'porn addiction,' as they'd prefer to think that it wouldn't happen to 'Christians,' but since we're all human, I believe God knows that 'stuff' happens, even to us who are His Children..... (o:

I hope this has helped a bit.....feel free to 'pm' me or e-mail me....'pm' and e-mail info found by clicking on my name over to the left of this post.... (o:
