A well-needed change

I've been considering it for about a year, but today I finally made decision to dedicate myself toward becoming sober. I've told my closest friends, but they seem to think I'm kidding. I suppose that's because I have half-heartdly tried to quit a few times before.

If I don't sober up and stay sober I am going to ruin my life. I don't even enjoy being drunk - it's just something my body is drawn to. I am hoping that finding this support network will help me out. I have looked into AA, but I am not a fan of the religious aspect.

Wish me luck!

It sounds like you've made a good decision.

There is lots of support and information here.

Here is a list of various Recovery programs (courtesy of Carol):

Thank you very much! I think I'll have a better chance of being successful if I can find a support group that matches my beliefs, so I can find some sober friends.

I think it is a good decision to try sobriety, even if you are not fully commited to it. Give it a shot, and see what happens.

The other point I want to make is, don't give up if you don't succeed immedialtely.

I AM fully commited this time. For the past year or so I've tried a couple times half-heartedly, but this time I'm not messing around. There are 2 or 3 holiday parties I am skipping because I know that the temptation will be too much. It's been two and a half days, and I'm still going strong!
