Question TOPIC: How Old Do You Look And Feel Now That U R In Recovery?

Hi Im sharon and Im an Alcoholic.

By the Grace of my HP and people
like you here in SR i havent had a
drink of alcohol since 8-11-90. For
that im truely grateful.

Ok, so this topic came to mind
moments ago.....

How do you look and feel now
that you are in recovery?

Meaning....when u first become
sober as you have heard....you
are practically and infant. Starting
a new life sober with first having
someone carry you before you are
able to take those first few steps.

Then as time goes on you begin to
walk by urself.

I began taking sips of alcohol before
i could remember....but it wasnt until
my teen yrs....that i remember drinking
small tastes before the big stuff....

So as they tell you in recovery...you
stop growing the moment u begin
drinking.

Growing maturely, emotionally.

So at 30 yrs old when i got sober
I really was just a teenager
mentally.

Does that make sense?

Ok, now im 16 yrs sober....that
makes me how old?

At almost 48 yrs old....i feel
and act like a teenager. : )
or a child being pulled on a sled..lol
I havent grown up yet.

Do i want to grow up....
na... lol

And then i look in the mirror
and what do i see?
A child.... lol who likes to play..

A childs image
in a womans body.

hmmmm.... People today say
i dont look my age....that i look
younger.... GOOD..!

Ok, enough about me....

So tell me about you....

How do u look and feel in r
recovery today?

Thanks for letting me share.

Well, since I started drinking at age 14 got sober 2-21-05 I guess that makes me about 16, and I definitely feel about that old when it comes to dealing with my emotions!

I feel pretty damn good for 42. Sure, I put on a few pounds as a result of quitting drinking and chewing tobacco, but the weight is slowly coming off. My skin looks much better, and my hair and teeth look a whole lot better. In general, I feel great!

All of that is a result of being sober and wanting to take better care of myself. Thank God for AA!
