Question Topic: The "slipper" Needs Understanding. Do You?

Hi Im sharon and Im an Alcoholic.

By the grace of my HP and people like
you here in SR i havent found it necessary
to take a drink of alcohol since 8-11-90.
For that im truely grateful.

What do you think? Are u mis-understood?
Do people, family, workers, friends understand
you when u slip?

"Slippers can often be associated
to rebellion; some of us are more
rebellious than others. Slips may be
due to the illusion that one can be
"cured" of alcoholism or drugs.

Slips can be associated to carelessness
and complacency. Many of us fail
to ride out these periods sober.
Things go fine for two or three
years - then the member is seen
no more.

Some of us suffer extreme guilt
because of things or practices that
we can't or won't let go of. Too little
self-forgiveness and too little prayer
...well, this combination adds up to slips.

"Then some of us are far more alcohol-
damage than others. Still others encounter
a series of problems and cannot seem
to find the spiritul resources to meet
them.

There are those of us who are physically
ill. Others are subject to more or less
continueous exhaustion, anxiety, and
depression. These conditions often play
a part in slips ....

Sometimes they are just controlling."

Thanks for letting me share.

A common rationalization about not
making the program goes like this:

"Harry over there slipped 10 times before
he made it, so what if I slip a few times?"

What is overlooked is the last time
Jack slipped - he slipped into a coffin; the
last time Bob slipped - his baby son
burned to death in a crib because of his
negligence; the last time Ann slipped - she
got strychnine poisoning and is blind; and
the last time Jim slipped - he tried to kill
hi wife and nearly did.

We're not playing games here - this is
a matter of life and death.

Have you stopped slipping?

I personally saw what happened to a particular person who I was getting to know fairly well.

Early in my sobriety there was a meeting called "Saturday Night Live" in Canoga Park. It was a great meeting, 1/2 discussion and 1/2 speaker............there was a couple that had been regulars at the meeting for years and rarely missed a saturday night. He had over 15 years of sobriety and she was close behind him.

One saturday night, they weren't there, no big deal, they had probably gone on a trip, it was summer time. Second saturday still no George and Marie. Well the 3rd saturday we knew what had happened to them it had hit the front page of the newspaper.............................he had gone back out drinking......................and that friday night.....................in a drunken rage............................he shot his wife and then shot himself...................

So.........................that sure made me think twice from then on, any time I had a thought of drinking again.

There are 3 "Ups" for an alcoholic:

Locked Up

Covered Up

or

Sobered Up

J M H O

Love and hugs,

A similar story with my sponsor, Laurie. Except he didn't shoot himself, just her. It was devistating, as I spent almost as much time hanging with him, as I did her.

Yeah, drugs and alcohol kill.

Yep this I can relate too just my opinion that we have to fully coincide to our innermost selves that we are addicts (alcohol is a drug) this is the first step in recovery. It doesn't have to mean the same thing for anyone. I do however know that if I continue to do what I have been doing on a daily basis and try to improve on my spiritual condition, and to learn from everyone then I might be granted another day as a gift of being clean and what is more than that also a new way to live the NA Way.

Love Vic

I meet him when i was 16, we had a codpendant thing going on,...! Then i had my son... .! and HAD to get out of the situation,....He contniued with his habit, n we seperated years ago,...! My son saw him once in his life that he will remember........He was always so Greedy,.....that he had to have more than the next person,....Always, sneaky, lieing, and much more,....!
So the years passed,..n I had'nt seen him for 7 yrs,.....and i get a phone call from his Boyfriend, .....a good friend of mine,....LOL..that he did'nt know were he was....!
So as his babymother,......I Had to find him,....!

He had Slipped into unconsuiousness on the Grass at a train staition in London...and Died,..! They found a girl next to him who lived to tell the tale,...!
I have to pass this station,...Regular....!
And my son also has to know that his Dad died where he died n I have to wait, until he's old enough to tell him...!..Thanks a bunch Spinx...,
