Is Milk Thistle really good for alcoholic livers?

I heard a TV "doctor" on one of the cable channels say that Alcoholics should take Milk Thistle for their Liver--along with vitamins.

I had heard "alternative" practicioners say this before but never a doctor. Does anyone have any evidence that Milk Thistle really works?--are there any down sides to taking it?

I've researched milk thistle and believe that it does help liver function. I have taken it regularly for several years.

You can do a google search and you'll find lots of information.

Once I quit drinking...
my liver enzymes quickly returned to normal.

Take care...

I take a couple of Milk Thistle pills daily as a matter of course. Like a little insurance policy. If it helps, awesome. Hopefully, it won't hurt.

I have read this also and it is also called Blessed Thistle. You are right, a doctor will almost never tell you that any herbs will help but just do your own research. Visit a herb & vitamin store and see what they have to say.
