Just was wondering what everyones thought on non-alcoholic beer is?

The consensus here is usually to note that it's not non-alcoholic.

Also, the ritual of opening the beer, etc. can be trigger for people.

i was never much of a beer drinker, but non-alcoholic beer imho wasn't worth drinking. and i think it does have a bit of alcohol in it--isn't that right? anyhow, from what i've read, we alcoholics should steer clear of alcohol in any form--truffles with alcohol, sauces with alcohol and god-forbid that evil vanilla! seems like overkill, but i'm not gonna chance it.

in the meantime, i'm getting into some other things--like sparkling water and juice, diet ice teas, and my new passion virgin mojitos. (my quick and easy recipe is minute maid diet limeade with fresh mint leaves--yum! perfect for hot weather!)

the hardest thing for me is that i always enjoyed certain foods with certain alcoholic beverages, which have no non-alcoholic equivalent. You know certain things with certain drinks--like steak and cabernet; salmon and chardonnay; and scotch with nothing ;-)

looking forward to seeing other responses...

NA beer, on average, has about the same alcohol content as orange juice from concentrate.

I've tried it, because I used to like dark German beers so much, but without the alcohol it seemed pointless, and I didn't even like the taste.

I think the NA beer is very misleading. It is not non-alcoholic, so my advice would be...buyer beware.

It does have alcohol. It is allowed, at most, .5% (1/2 part alcohol for every 100 parts). On average, it has about half that much, or .025% (1/4 part for every 100 parts).

Non-alcoholic beer wasnt designed for alcoholics who wanted to pretend they havent changed at all. Getting sober is about quitting the drinking, sure, but its far more about changing your lifestyle. If you dont change the way you live,....nothing else changes.

best thing to do is change people place and things. So out with the old and make new healthy practices.

I know as a bartender I'm not allowed by law to serve it to minors. I tried it once when I was pregnant and it was gross! If memory serves me correctly, I only had a couple of sips and went back to water. I hope someday I'll feel the same way about real beer.....

i HAVE NEVER TRIED IT AND NEVER WILL- from what I heard it doesn't taste good anyway besides the whole point is to stay sober right that would just be like having another trigger the next thing you know I would be wanting a real beer.

Personally, I never drank beer for the taste, though at the time I wouldn't admit it.

I only ordered it if everyone at a table was having a beer and I did not want to drink (rarely happened). I remember how much people sitting around with orange juices bothered me in company when I was really drinking (why can't they party with us? If they don't want to, why don't they just go home?), so at workplace parties I decided to act like beerdrinking only not to bother others. But I so much did not like the taste that I sort of just took small sips and remember heading out to the toilet to drink from the water tap.

Isn't alcoholism stupid?
