Hi and Welcome to SR.
Start by browsing the various threads and forums. There is a lot of advice to be found in the ES&H of others. Sharing is not mandatory, do so if you wish.
There is a wide variety of ES&H here that generally can offer something to everyone.
I found that my starting point was wanting the change. Then I had to decide I would not drink no matter what.
Peace, Levi.

Hi and Welcome,
Levi is right, it's about wanting the change. It's hard to get sober and stay sober and you have to really want it. There is lots of support and information here, so I hope you keep posting.

Welcome to SR!
Keep coming back. There is wonderful support here.
This site has helped me tremendously!!!!
I have 7 weeks of sobriety now by God's grace and the people He has placed in my path on SR and in AA; I could not have done it on my own, and I would not want to even try to do it on my own after having the pleasure and the privilege of meeting people here and in AA.

7 Weeks that's awesome
Hi TD, glad you found us and are having so much success. That is what it is all about. It is great that you are sharing your successes, you inspire others to do the same and remind those that have been maybe a little too comfortable in their long term sobriety to recall what it was like to get clean.

Welcome. I hope you stick around. AA worked for me so if you are asking for my advice, here it is:
1) Go to AA meetings (find one that you feel comfortable at)
2) Listen to the others if you are not ready to talk
3) Be around other sober people (AA is a good place for that!)
4) Decide that for today you will not drink (deal w tomorrow when it comes)
I wish you great success. You can do this. Are you ready?

Hi Witsend,
I would have to echo what jmhs said. I would give AA a try. Go to meetings and tell the group you are a newcomer. Listen to what others have to say and tell the group what you are going through. You will get to know people that are going through the same things you are and you no longer have to do it alone. This made all the difference for me. It might be the answer for you too.
