Hi everyone- I hope you’ve all had a good first day of the year? I got up and hiked with the dogs today , a good positive start to the year. Also had a meal out with family and just had lemonade and drive home. Feels good to be in control and knowing I won’t wake depressed tomorrow.

Zenith Runner Hi guys
Welcome aboard JustTony. Honesty is always the best policy. Today can be the last time you drink/use. Do you have a recovery plan in mind @JustTony ? Just asking no pressure to respond.
Let us know we can help.
Take, 26 days. Thats nice for me to see
Chancellor Welcome to the group
I spent New Year's Eve at my sister most of the day. I had dinner with her my nephew her son. Watch some football. great college games. high scoring games. amazing these youngsters can really play ball. I told her I was taking an art class at the Community College she asked me which one I told her to class and she said she was going to enroll in that class too. I'm the youngest of four of us. Sis C is 11 years older than me and my oldest sister is 21 years older than me I believe. Her and my middle sister live together about a mile and 1 1/2 miles from me on my electric bicycle. Stepping out trying new things of the sober rewards I'm reaping. I hope I'm pushing myself to much, I'll pull back without any problems no worries. I will not risk my sobriety because it's just too precious right now and if I lose that I lose everything pretty much so that's the end of that thank you very much.
Namaste
Thanks Delilah

YOU CAN DO THIS!! Love, Bandi
Day 2
I bet most of you have read what I am about to post many times, but when I saw it for the first time it was new to me. Anyway, it resonated with me to such an extent that I have never forgotten it and I might make it my signature.
"Addiction is giving up everything for just one thing; Recovery is giving up one thing to gain everything"
That certainly sums it up for me.

Hello everyone. First post for me in a while on this forum. I'm sober since Oct. 13 2022, so that makes almost 82 days today.
I'm reading this thread and teaming up with you guys for today/a while, because for the first time during this sobriety I feel a little stressed out. But I'm relaxing already after a difficult morning.
I wish everyone a happy new year in this class and good luck to everyone and his/her sobriety this year!
Love, CSC.

Welcome Chopstick!
Zencat- taking a class for something you enjoy is a really good idea. I always look at the adult evening class schedule, but never jump, I should.
FDL- I gotta get out and hike myself. I got my snowshoes out to go snowshoeing but it's been a weird winter, snowstorm, then melts a week later.
I'm heading to Niagara on the lake in Canada today with SIL. It's a nice quaint town with shops and we'll have lunch in a cozy restaurant with fireplaces and low beamed ceilings. I love antiques and old architecture.
Have a good sober day folks!

Erratic Thank you for the kind compliment . Day 2 and holdfast, good job on 'working-it"
ChopStickCheese Welcome back to SR and to the Class. 82 days even through some rough spots. Great sober progress .
Aha! the life stopping "should" word . I learned the hard knock way not to "should" on myself. The could of, would of, should of suffel sucks, Do or not do that is a choice, should is a stall tactic. Not to be mean or nothing but the "should' word freaks me out. Good work with a recovery program that is working YEA!
Welcome to SR keeppushing 29 days sober is a good start.
Hello Chancellor, Sam, TC Bobbie and anybody I missed, Thank you for being here for each other and me
Urge distraction is a good recovery tool to use in early sobriety. When an urge arises immediately have something set in place to focus all your attention on like;
Pledging (135 days sober today) I never will drink/drug and I will never change my mind AVRT (AVRT Explained (long)),
I'm working on a bulletin board tutorial for sober recovery this morning. It's a good way to distract yourself and do something productive kind of work attitude it keeps your mind off away from any of the crazy using stuff urges. Gonna go for a walk this morning around the apartment complex maybe a couple times or three 3. Working on the bike again today after laying off of it with too much frustration going on so I had to set it aside and work on something else, that's a good skill set to have. Today I'm gonna go tackle the tire flat and repair and all that malarkey that I'm having way too many rear tire flats. I'm gonna have to figure out what's going on. I am happy to be sober, happy to be alive, happy to be able to learn something new each and every day. Take care everyone check in soon. Oh
How's the pain management going on @Dee74 . Hoping for the best this year. Physical therapy for pain manage has worked in my family before, hope it's working for you buddy,
Namaste

- watching a new of favorite movie
- playing a video game,
- going for a walk
- working on a project
- watching TV
- house cleaning/organizing
- think of some of your own ways to take your mind off the urges

Today is day 27! Not quite a month but almost 😬
It has been great to wake up every morning hangover free. No throwing up throughout the night, no more restless sleep, no more anxious praying that I show up to work sober….the list goes on. Now I wake up, make coffee, listen to the news, and dance around. It’s a much different me.
I now look at 2023 as a new adventure, as opposed to just another year. Alcoholism allowed time to pass me by unnecessarily. I don’t remember a lot of my years, as I was always drunk. So now I can’t wait to see what my sober self can accomplish.
I hope you all have a fabulous day
