Hi y’all

things aren’t ok in the US.

However, it is a miracle that I am not drinking during an upheaval of this magnitude.

it is an absolute miracle and I am thankful

Congrats on 45 days Red!

Hi Plenny, it difficult to respond without accidentally breaking SR rules. I do want to say that I feel for you all over there as what is happening at the moment seems to be polemic and causing friction between friends and neighbours. All you can do is keep your own council and accept others have their own equally strong beliefs. Your recovery is what is important and keeping focused on ODAAT

Red, keep racking up those days sweetie. I can't keep track of the cost of utilities and fuel these days, not to mention the cost of my shopping!

I’m thinking of this as a human rights crisis, unfortunately it is not about opinion anymore. And it’s actually so many more human rights issues.

We are not ok. Things are about to be very not ok.

But I’m going to be sober and available to those who need me.

I’m going to stop after this, as the rules of all recovery groups will prevent me from going any further. Although that is silencing a cry for help and feels very apro pos under the circumstances.

I ask that no one tell me to be quiet it will absolutely affect my recovery in this moment. Absolutely.

I needed a place to say: we are not ok and I will stay sober.

Well said.
First thing first, sobriety has to be on top.
What should I do if my car breaks? I will stay sober.
What should I do if I lose my job? I will stay sober.
What should I do if we go into a third world war? I will stay sober.
(you get the picture ...)
I feel you Plenny, courage

Hi Plenny! Here's me - fellow US person weighing in - I will hopefully not break any rules but I want to support you and also tell you that I'm now looking at staying sober as a way to fight back against what is going on. We can't afford to check out mentally/emotionally etc.
Anyway, my two cents.
Edit to say I re read your post and you said basically the same thing :-)

What CK says, exactly.

Hope everyone is staying the course, all we need to do is stay sober every day, every NOW, for 365 days. Then, we GRADUATE to the OVERS, where, easy street is not, but the better life is.

The stresses, personal, political, worldly, are much better handled sober, yes?

I definitely agree better to check in than check out, be mindful of your own needs so you are able to manage your feelings about what is happening around you.

Good morning all from my corner of the world! Very rainy this AM so the dog did not get his normal walkies. However, he forgave me after I gave him a treat--dogs are so easy to impress, cats not so much(though mine like treats too, but they seem to think they are entitled to them!)

I think the checking out vs checking in conversation is so valid-so many situations to which it applies. Thinking of the stupid stuff I did or didn't do while under the influence, I don't want to go back there.

Onward and Upward.

its what I would tell another alcoholic to do

Yeah I want to “take a break” so badly but that could really be deadly in these times. It’s easy to not care when things seems so out of control. I’m thinking of everyone around the world in a country at war and fighting for human rights. So many of us out there.

I realise there is a lot of pain, suffering and instability out there Plenny, but we need to learn to let go the things we cannot control. You are in charge of your life and the way you use this one life we are given. If it helps, take a few days away from the news, I know long term ignorance is not an answer, but maybe the break you need to take is from the bombardment of hopelessness you are feeling just now. Be strong.

Hi all! Agreed Toots--sometimes I have to take a break from it all. My normal escape(not what I used to use which was drinking) is going outside and just taking in nature. It helps, at least for me.

hi - almost done a 7th of a year - yay

I'm experimenting making low(ish) fat ice cream (my usual stuff of whipped cream with condensed milk and flavourings is too fattening) (ice cream from the shops is full of chemicals and liquified pigs - yuck!)

I've tried custards and custard hybrids but I get ice crystals (don't have an ice-cream maker at the moment to keep stirring as it freezes so ice crystals don't form)

best low fat I've made so far is just using evaporated milk :

* put can in fridge for about an hour
* open and whip until peaky (or about double volume with aeration if it won't peak - 4 minutes whipping)
* mix in about heaped desert spoon of icing sugar + small pinch of salt
* mix and streak-in optional favours (vanilla, choc, jam etc.)
* freeze for about 4 hours

(I've been dissolving cocoa powder + icing-sugar in some gently heated evaporated milk at the start and putting that in the fridge in a cup, as well as the opened can of milk to mix in later - to avoid the slight graininess of undissolved cocoa powder for a choc favour ice cream)

serves 4 decent size portions (89p a can so about 23p a serving) - tastes fine and only about 100kcal a serving

anyway - well done if you did another day :-)

Haha red re the store bought icecream, I love fatty pork cuts, so makes sense I love ice cream then 😂. Lucky for me I don't eat either often, I'm plump enough as is lol. Well done on finding an alternative.

I love ice cream. I've never thought to make it myself, but it sounds like a cool project to take on.

OMG. I had Hagen Daz coffee ice cream with dark girhhadeli chocolate chips the other night, guar gum and all. It was yummy!

Cool you can do all that, red. Hooray for 1/7th 🤓❤️🎊🎉
