Hi !!! We have backed out of our apartment lease. I know in time we will find one that we
both like. and of course we have not seen eye to eye since. It's so much pressure...when one is ok
with moving the other one has second doubts. I hate it.
I've been going to AA and that seems to help. I've thought about drinking and of course we all know that is
not the answer.
Well, just wanted to give you a update. Hope everyone is doing ok.
hugs to all of you
Babs

I'm glad you're getting some sober support Babs, the decision whether to move or not is a toughie. We really need to downsize our garden as being away 3 months at a time is not great, but otherwise the house is ideal. We are torn because we know we need to move and have now had an offer -albeit unofficial until solicitors get involved from Tuesday- but it is very stressful. We both have similar ideas about where our next home should be, but do also differ in our personal ideals. Hopefully we find enough common ground - and obviously a house that ticks enough of those boxes - before we're living out of a tent in our sons back garden!

Toots, it’s often hard enough to satisfy one person, let alone two! However, I’m betting on you and Mr T

I have such mixed feelings on selling our house and I'm not sure what to do? We are in our 70s and I know we need to down size. But hate the thought of putting money out for rent..

I'm not sure of your circumstances Babs, are you talking about renting going forward as a way of downsizing or just in the interim until you find another home? Because we may soon be in that scenario. We have pretty much sold our house and will be moving out around the end of June so we really need to have a place to move into by then and can't find a suitable place just now.
i feel there are pros and cons for renting - someone else has the responsibility for the building, but the downside is yes it is a bigger monthly outgoing than a mortgage ( assuming you still pay one) and you are at the mercy of the landlord. Perhaps writing a list of pros and cons would help to see the way forward?

Awh exactly....we don't have a house payment. It's paid for..other then insurance and taxes, etc. That's where I hate the thought of dishing out money for rent. But again we are tired if mowing and pushing snow and etc..I guess I'm just leary of moving on maybe...but, getting to old and now maybe is the time to sell...
thank you Toots..I know you get where I'm coming from and your opinion matters....thanks again...

Could you move to a smaller house with less yard? Or would your cost for employing someone to do the yard work come to less than you'd be paying out in rent? There are options to moving. We have considered getting a Gardner but I resent someone doing the work when I'm not there to appreciate it! We also considered making the garden even lower maintenance, but we've decided we need to move. We are looking at smaller houses as well as apartments, with low or no maintenance gardens.

Babs, I’ve lived in houses, condos and apartments. Each has advantages and disadvantages. Rent also covers maintenance so i don’t see it as throwing away money. I’m happy not having the encumbrance of dealing with a house now that I’m getting older. You’ll figure it out.

Wink

I know what you guys mean...I or we just have to come to the middle and right now. we buck each other. ugh.
But, yes, it's time. i found out in just the last couple of times going to the lake that hubby runs out of air and we are
both slowing down. I so hate giving up my (our) back yard but, need to do as I can't do it all.
You guys are the best ! ! ! thanks for helping me through all this.
Babs
P.S. When i speak of the lake it isn't our home here in town.

Oh Babs, I was so looking forward to visiting 'your lake' when we travelled the west coast, it was on our personalised itinerary. Then Covid struck and the trip was cancelled. We are hoping to resurrect it at some point but maybe a year or two down the line when things are more settled globally.
