Oh wow!! Abcowboy, look at that nest!!! Please keep us informed about the ducklings... and their mum, of course. I felt awful earlier this year because when I went to move my sun lounger (which is stacked up against the side of my house) out onto the grass in my garden, I saw a little robin's nest, built into the packed away sun lounger. I live in the UK so the sun lounger doesn't get used very often (although, the weather at the moment is absolutely beautiful)... so anyway, I saw the robins had built a nest in my sun lounger and I couldn't bring myself to move it so yeah, now I sunbathe lying on a towel on the ground. I see the little robins fly to the sun lounger every so often and the other day, one of the robins had a grub or something in his/her beak so I reckon they are now proud parents! Can't wait to hear about the ducklings! 24 more for me please xxx
You'd think after 40 years of drinking I'd have learned not to be a sucker for punishment, but no, there I was yesterday out in the heat trying to get a neglected farm yard back into shape! At least I was sitting on the riding lawn mower and not walking around carrying a gas powered string trimmer. Anyway, as I was cutting the 2 year old grass a momma duck flew up out of the grass right in front of me! Scared the heck out of me but I immediately stopped the lawnmower and got off to investigate. Sure enough, right in front of me was her nest full of eggs.
I carefully cut around the nest and built up a bit of a wall around it with the grass clippings to make sure it was still hidden from predators. I'll keep an eye on it and see if I can get a pic once the eggs hatch. I'm so glad she was sitting on the nest when I was cutting grass otherwise I would have never known it was there and would have felt terrible if I'd have run over it!
