Good morning everyone. 7:53am in Indiana. Yesterday was a good day! Work was work....add that to my slow internet at home and it was a tad on the frustrating side. But, yesterday was my oldest son's 13th birthday. When he got home from school we surprised him. Then in the evening he had a swim meet where he set personal bests in both the events he swam meet. It was actually just a "race night" with his own team since they have had a couple meets get cancelled and needed to get the competitive juices flowing. I helped with timing because I get so bored sitting in the bleachers. He got mad because in his 50 yard freestyle he swam a 30.10 second time and his goal was to break 30 seconds on his birthday. So close! That'll will definitely happen this season. Then we got home and had some cake and just hung out.
I remember in previous years I would "make an effort" and avoid drinking on my kid's birthdays. I don't think the thought of alcohol even crossed my mind across most of the day. Typically I now just think about it in the morning when I write my affirmations and when I check in here. Occasionally I'll listen to some podcasts from This Naked Mind. Closing in on 5 months AF and I think one of the biggest reliefs of sobriety is just the fact that it's not the all consuming, front of mind issue at all times. I'm not going to give alcohol any inches, but I just like how it's now fallen down the list of mental priorities and is probably down around checking the weather in states I don't live in. Pretty far down the list.
Best wishes to all, I truly hope you have great, alcohol free days.

24 MORE and
I have been absent of late. Usual stuff- pain, brain, insane....also end of year and finishing art assignments, practical and papers...this has been a real kicker - but I got my final results today and received a credit for both the history and the drawing subjects.
Given the last 2 drawing subjects I scraped through the first, and a solid pass for number 2- a credit shows more improvement. My brain is still physically healing from the burns trauma, the booze, the 23 surgical procedures and the huge amount of life saving drugs and anaesthetics I had. The slowly improving grades show my brain is still healing. This was ahlf the reason I pursued this visual arts Bachelor- to brain train. Also a concrete way of showing myself comittment to my recovery.
So I am satisfied, but am determined to do more of the same work in the break, so as not to lose momentum.
My prayers and support to all.
Forgive this post going in other threads- if you read around.

Day 11!
Today, this morning, I'm getting my hair done for the holidays. Not that I'll be seeing anyone, as Michigan is locked up pretty tight, but it does make me feel better about myself. I have a few errands to run after my appointment and then, home to clean a bit and wrap presents later tonight. I also have to get a mattress to a family in need but the truck bed I'm borrowing is full of snow. We'll figure it out.
For the first time in many years, I don't think I'll be spending Christmas Eve with my son, daughter-in-law and my precious granddaughters. It sounds depressing to say "I'll be alone Christmas Eve ( I may stop by my sister's house) and Christmas Day", but I honestly don't feel that way. None of us want to get sick. My son and daughter-in-law are both in the obese category and the issues with that could make them very ill. so, home sweet home it is.
I'm feeling a bit better every day now, with the exception of constant sneezing and a very runny nose...the consequence of being allergic to 3 hairy dogs I'm locked up with!
One more thing. On any given day, I used spent 3-5 dollars on vodka (little shots) and munchies that I just had to have. As of today, I figured I saved about $50 and probably close to 10,000 calories not drinking and eating mindlessly!
Congratulations to all celebrating a milestone today, be it small or large. I will celebrate day 11 in my own way :-)
