One Year And Under Club Part 66
Hi all
I've been staying busy and didn't get a chance to check in yesterday.
I'm happy to hear everyone is staying sober.
I've been giving my brain a bit of a break and immersing myself in holiday crafting.
Our town is having a Halloween House Decoration contest and so I've been having fun planning our decor.
Love the pics, Coz. Great work!
I can sympathize, Willow. I know we have a few party invitations that will be coming around and I'm thinking we will pass on most of them. How did yours go?
Welcome to the group, Bent. My AV seems to evolve but the answer is always the same, I don't drink. Mine was a constant drama queen early on, then it was a bully trying to wear me down, now it seems to be like a ninja, mostly running in the shadows and strikes when I am lazy with my thoughts about alcohol. My own emotional state is a bit of a mess. I feel like I need to slow things down. My body feels great but I feel like I have to keep looking for my brain.
I am so thankful I am not looking for a way to sneak a drink.

Well done Willow - a successful dinner! Did you enjoy it?
Hi Kaptn - please post some photos of your halloween decorations! That sounds like a fun thing to do. Can also sympathise with the brain taking longer to recover than the body.
Thanks for all your nice comments about my projects. I do really enjoy being busy and making things. I'm definitely not a carpenter, but I do like the 'rustic' look, so it doesn't matter if it's not perfect. Today will be a potting day to use my new "Potting Palace", and a lunch and swim at the beach - it's a lovely day (although a bit windy).
Enjoy the rest of your weekend everyone. Take care....

Wow Kaptn they are very effective! I use http://photoposting.is-great.net it's idiot-proof! Allows for multiple postings.
Well done Willow!
Well done Willow!
I love the wreaths Kaptn
I didn’t really enjoy going out for dinner actually, it was way too noisy (a busy pub) and there were way too many people there (I don’t know how they were allowed to have that many people in there). Everyone was drinking and largely disregarding social distancing. We haven’t had many cases here and people seem to think it won’t happen here. There was a Covid tracing book where people were supposed to sign in at the door, and there were social distancing markers on the floor next to the bar, but most people were ignoring them. My partner got jostled when he lined up for drinks and told the people off. I haven’t been out in a public place socialising in ages, and to be honest, I don’t miss it at all. Last time we went out I didn’t enjoy it either, for the same reasons. Next time I am invited out to a pub, I will find a reason to decline. The only reason I went this time was because it was an old friend’s special birthday. We left straight after dinner.
I’m realising that I’m much more of an introvert than I ever was when I was drinking. I’d much rather stay home, or be out in nature. I don’t like crowds and noisy places at all. Possibly one of the reasons I drank was to make noise and crowds tolerable.... Now I would rather just avoid them both. I’m turning into a bit of a hermit

Thanks for the compliments on the wreaths. You are very kind and I appreciate it.
I love to create things. I made the wreaths with twigs I cut from a tree in the back yard. I used green garden wire (twist-ties) to lash them together, building with largest diameter branches first, then circle around and build up with smaller branches and petioles (part of leaf that attaches to branch). I finished with a hot glue gun to anchor it all down and some black spray paint. The bird is from Dollar Tree but I have seen them at other discount stores also. My next project is to spray paint a moon. I found a video on You Tube, seems simple enough. And if I screw it up, no one will know because it will be in the trash. LOL After that I will be making witches hats from black plastic party plates and black plastic tablecloth. I will cut a circle of plastic to make the cone top of the hat and tape it to the plate. The plan is to hang them in the tree out front and across the front porch. They have great ideas on Pinterest. Cheaper than buying a million hats or putting up expensive lights.
What you described is the same reason I haven't been eager to go out to visit/party with our friends, Willow. Not worth the hassle and my tolerance is still way too low to handle drunk people without getting snotty about it. I'm happy you got to spend time celebrating your friend's day, I also get being ready to leave when you got the chance! We also aren't overly paranoid about contracting Covid but we do all the things we can to stay healthy and that also means avoiding the close quarters with lots of people and most social venues. Why tempt Fate?! Thankfully our age and soon-to-be empty-nest allows us to shift gears and spend much of our time outdoors and doing "boring" stuff. We haven't had many visitors in the last 7 months, I can only count 5 off the top of my head. We live a distance from most of our friends and used to be the ones that did the travelling to visit. Now that there isn't booze, there also isn't much interest there, on either side, evidently.
Congrats to all on staying sober.

Thanks for the wreath method Kaptn! If I can get the pieces together, they will be a good sit down job for me and my foot. Your house will look amazing with all those decorations! This will be my first Halloween in the town that I'm living in. It will be interesting to see if anyone does Halloween stuff - it's not as big in Aussie as in some other places.
Willow - I think introvert and agoraphobia tendencies are well represented in the alcoholic population. Drinking sure gave me more confidence to be out with other people and to places I really am not interested in going to sober. I even struggle to get myself out the house to go food shopping - but I find it easy if I am going bush or beach where there aren't many or any people. And your dinner experience was a bit like my socialising experiences sober this year. I got through them, but I didn't enjoy them. Hope you have a great day today - sending hugs and a smiles .
Big hello to all the Undies and Toots and Purps - .

Coz, I think Delta was a what not a who, a hurricane that hit land in Louisiana.
Bent, not sure where you are, but hoping you stayed safe sweetie.
Kaptn, we will defo need more photos of your Halloween successes!
Willow, I too prefer to avoid the crowded events now. I have always been shy and alcohol certainly lubricated my social dealings. I have much more confidence these days, whether it's my age or sobriety and experience, I'm not sure. I still feel uncomfortable in a crowd, but one to one I will speak.

Yes I’m definitely much more of a homebody than when I was drinking.
Like you Coz, apart from the bush and the beach, I’m very happy to stay home

hi Coz. Delta was the hurricane. We just got some rain from it. We live near pittsburgh thanks for the kind thoughts.
Hi Undies
Just checking in to say hi after spending the morning helping out with some dune revegetation and weeding at the beach. It felt so good getting out the house and in the clean sea air for a while. I wasn't the best volunteer help today, but I still managed to weed an area of the foredune as a sit down and slide along job. I can't wait to have two feet again!
Hope you are all well. Take care of yourselves....

It's good you're managing to keep busy Coz.
Bent, good to hear you didn't have too bad a visit from Delta!
Charon, how are things with you? Unlike you not to post daily. Keep well.
You have a good day too Willow!
