A 24 Friday for me.

Kenton - you are a jewel in the crown. I think many of us here, probably due in part to addiction, tend to perceive what others think of us as truth, internalize it, assume it defines us and then get stuck. We can't control our negative thoughts happening, but we do have some say about which ones we pay attention to and act on. Take good care of yourself and know that you define your reality, not others.

kenton, thank you for sharing your feelings. Your post brought tears to my eyes because your upbringing was very similar to mine. I could feel what you were feeling through your words. My “I’m not good enough” childhood turned to self-injury (long before it was mainstream), alcohol at 18, many unhealthy relationships, etc. You’re not alone. I so appreciate you sharing, and Dee’s quote... love! “He said that the past cannot win if I decide not to be that person anymore.”

I might want to drink sometimes but that doesn't matter because I DON'T DRINK!

I do however eat chocolate so I'm going to do that then go to bed.

Fridays are hard....I would be telling myself I am not drinking today. End of story. No more pressure than that. And really, that works every day. I have never looked ahead or down the track with this and thought what it would be like to never drink again or any of that....from the beginning it has always been for me: Just for today, I will not drink. And that was doable for me. s xx ❤️

The weeks continue to grind on—very sad, stressed and exhausted. I ran out of paid time off so my life is work and taking care of very ill parents with my mentally wobbly, sometimes quite abusive, hard-drinking brother. I may just barely be getting through it all but I am...and sober. Feeling so weak and tired but I have the opportunity to rest this evening, and perhaps tomorrow. Been sorting out payroll tax issues but it’s almost sorted. I don’t have to be shouted at tonight—I won’t be abused. Not even sure I’ll pick up the phone. I just want peace after being up for work at 4 am, Peace and rest and supper.

Sometimes it seems like the only bright spot in my life right now is sobriety—but that’s a big one. And there really are many more lights. Grief and exhaustion can obscure. So I’m in the right place. I need to listen and be reminded of positive things. I need a hand up is all.

Trees - I keep meaning to say how much I sympathise with you on the tyranny of maanging board meetings, taking minutes etc. I did that a lot in my working life and found it a touch thankless to say the least. Hope you got that day off.

Huge congratulations of course to our milestoners. I do love seeing those.

VoVo - Just wanted to say I think you're doing brilliantly against such a lot of odds. You have my admiration.

Kenton - I can't add much to what Bailey and others have said but I'm glad you're back. Your fabulous sense of humour is a real asset to this thread.
