Just got home from the bday dinner. That was great. 6-7:30 pm, ate some delicious food, drank a ginger ale, and I was out. I wasn't even the only one not drinking at dinner, since some of them were seemingly saving themselves for the drinkfest later in the evening. I'm so relieved to be home, happy to not be in a karaoke bar (pretty much my idea of hell right now) and glad I can go to bed whenever I want and wake up not hungover.

Of course I came home, bit into a chocolate that my bf's grandma gave us for Christmas and immediately realized it had alcohol in it. I hadn't encountered that (at least not that I'm aware of!) in any of the others in that chocolate assortment, so it was a bit of a shock, but spat it out, rinsed my mouth out, stayed calm. I've had enough sober time under my belt in the past to know these things will happen.

Off to hang out with the cat a while... not sure if "we" will read or watch a movie Hope everyone is enjoying their evening/morning for Willow

Hi everyone

Saturday afternoon here, all the dentist talk makes me feel grateful that I donít have to visit again for another 6 months at least. A clean recently and all was good. Phew!

Iím on day 18. Had a heavy conversation with the AV this morning. Or rather, it started screaming at me about 9am when I had to drive past an old liquor store I used to frequent, that Iíve been avoiding. But I yelled back at it even louder and it actually did shut up lol. Phew!

Now having a lovely ginger ale with a twist of fresh lemon

That yelling back trick really works....I know it always has for me.
Well done love....it feels good to win against the little bugger. And SBTS love, that happened to me after I moved here and ordered chocolate mousse (I think) as dessert for a take-out dinner....I checked the ingredients, all was supposedly fine, but it wasn't. One taste and wow....I looked at my husband and said this is filled with alcohol. So we threw it out. It was a shock for a minute....but I learned a lesson.

I had a diet coke at a golf club two weekends ago - the kind that comes out of those guns where the pipes weren't very clean - I was convinced it had rum in it! Ugh!!! I even had to ask which ended up being a bit embarrassing. Just that slight yuck after taste brought a funny sensation through my body. Not good!

SBTS, great going on getting the hell outta there after 90 mins - you prob packed all you needed to in in that time frame anyway.

50 days y'all! Had a nice game of golf today - wore some nice new clothes and had a really nice fish and chips lunch. Now home sending some emails and watching the football. Solid day all told. Beautiful sunny weather and no wind. I still seem to have slightly bloodshot / yellowy eyes at the mo and kinda dark circles under my eyes which i've had for over a week now. Hmm. Guess I'll have to get used to noticing ailments that normal folk usually complain of while I'm too busy being hungover to notice anything bar all of the anxiety swirling around in my head. This is good.

Not sure what I'll do this evening. Tempted by cinema but feeling a tiny bit lazy. Hmmm...

Hope everyone's having a nice weekend!

SBTS...that also happened to me! We were on vacation (thiswas years ago) and I order a tonic with lime. The server on the beach delivered our drinks. I took one sip and realized that it was a VODKA and tonic. I, too, spat it out. THAT was a tough one, since that was always my favorite drink. I was a member of AA at the time, and felt that I had to "confess" to my home group. Since AA is big on counting days, I thought that I had to start back on Day 1 (since I had swallowed some of that first gulp. I had a sponsor, at that time, who relieved my fears/humiliation, etc. and told me that it was fine...NO new Day 1 Sometimes, like at Thanksgiving, I use wine/sherry in my stuffing and to baste the turkey....I mean, does that count???? I think that it may be part of the reason that I don't count days. If I can stay sober today, then I think all is well. I mean, have you ever gotten drunk from a turkey?

Today will be an office day for me. Still trying to catch up...but I'm close! Paying February bills, calling insurance company, and essentially trying to get papers off of my desk!

Then I am going to do some gardening...just to be outside on a glorious day in So. California.
Glad to see that we are all hanging in there! Have a great weekend everyone!

Venus, what day is your b-day?

Hubby felt really badly when I made appointments for a couples hot stone massage followed by a fine dining dinner. He dropped the ball and he knew it;nevertheless they are both booked for my birthday Ah well...it's all good and I am super excited!

Briansy, just gotta say that I NEVER got sick until I quit drinking. I think I just drank my way though the symptoms, so I guess I never felt as though I was sick...being sick, after getting sober was miserable. Hope you feel better soon!

Cleaning the house today, catching up on projects. Vaycay in three weeks so I like to hit it hard and get some breathing room at work. My work consists of multiple hard deadlines, it's the ultimate treadmill job, but I like it.
Riding my bicycle later today.
Re putting booze in drinks, that happened at a chain hamburger restaurant that rhymes with Dead Throbbin. It was Mrs. Tile's B day and the server put booze in a sundae or whatever they brought for us to share. We just left it on the table and didn't say anything because they didn't know any better, but it was still sort of suprising. Oh, there was another example of that in Cabo San Lucas at a restaurant we really like. We got to know the server because we've been there a bunch and one time he put booze in my Coke without telling me. I smelled it in time and just dumped it in the planter when he wasn't looking.
In the old days I would have gone off on somebody. "When I was 30, my attitude was bad, . . ." Since I've been sober I just roll with things a lot better. When I was drinking I had to be in control (an oxymoron, I know), and I didn't let things slide. I was a nightmare to be around. Today I like to think that I'm a much nicer person. I still have my moments, but I've learned to play nice.
Briansy, congrats on 50 days. That's tremendous. You should be having some big changes about now. Two months is a really nice milepost.
Re yelling at the liquor store, I used to actually flip off the ten or 15 places I used to get beer when I drove past them on the way home from work each day. That lasted for months. When I was strong enough in sobriety to be able to go down the beer or booze aisle at the store without danger of relapse, I'd take pics of me flipping off the booze and text it to the three or four peeps I text with in the Feb 2016 class. It was fun, but also really theraputic.

I don't use alcohol in food either.

JMO but it makes no sense to me to cut alcohol out of my life in so many other ways and then use it in the kitchen.

Food tastes better to me without the overpowering influence alcohol can have on other more nuanced flavours,

I don't use alcohol in food. Depending on what and how much you use, it doesn't always cook off, plus I just don't want to handle the bottle. As someone who loves to cook, it's a bit of a bummer having to avoid certain recipes, but it is what it is. Sometimes there are good things you can substitute.

Briansy congrats on 50 days!!

Suze, Feb 10 is my brother's birthday too.

Willow, well done on beating the AV.

Day 77. Those two 7s look nice together. It snowed a lot here today and we watched a movie together, went to lunch, and then bf had to pack and leave for his annual ski trip to Utah with his friends. (I don't ski, I'm sure I'd be included if I did ) It was a tiny bit sad saying goodbye to him, but we've been so happy and spent so much good quality time together lately that I wasn't really upset by it. I don't really mind being apart from him, as long as I feel solid about things which I very much do right now.

Indulging in some TV time tonight I've got some work to do tomorrow morning and then I'm having brunch with a good friend. Will check in again tomorrow.

I'm jealous!! I wish I could be out golfing, riding my bike, or gardening. It's -21C and feels like -31C right now. I have to get through another three or four months of winter before I can get the clubs out again. Oh well, hope you're all enjoying your weekend.

Day 87 for me. I completed my 12 week Intensive Outpatient Program. Now I only have to go one evening a week for the next 9 months as part of the After Care Program.

SBTS, I know I am repeating myself, but you and your guy are the most socially active people I have ever almost known. Wow. Hope he has fun and I bet you have a fantastic time with the cat. And your friends. And your movies. And your journal and work and I think 77 is magnificent. I love double numbers. And very cool re your brother. s

Briansy.....I was thinking, if I was you I would get to a doc and have a checkup. I am not happy with the eye thing. (Bossy big sis ). xx

Hi Suze! Yes, you are right - I do need to get it checked. Will book an appointment for late on Friday after work. Free medical appointments are available in the UK but you can only access services near where you live and not work. Fine if you live in a small town, not so great in London where I have to take time off work to see someone - or else pay which I'd rather not do! But, yeah, it just looks funny - my colour is a tiny bit off at the moment although I feel great!

Had such a good day today - got up really early, showered, put on my new golf clothes and played a match in the big club team knockout competition. Played really well and won the match. The course was under heavy frost early on and it was magnificent being out there. I had a nice light lunch and came home and have just pottered around doing some cleaning and messing about online since. Currently watching the footie, all good.

I had a chat with my parents on the phone today and they clearly have noticed a big difference in my and I've really noticed it in myself also. My outlook is so damn positive at the moment, it's great. The two key things are my desire to put in a really good shift at work and my desire
to play golf. Both are high - but when I was down and depressed, they were low. My depression wasn't natural, it was definitely induced by alcohol. I still need some time to establish myself as a non-drinker and to be in a position where I'm not asked anymore about drinking etc But bit by bit (and this is a process that has been happening for 2 years now not since November 30), that stuff is getting better and more comfortable for me

Will now go to my phone to post a couple of pics of the golf course this AM. It was stunning !

Way to go Magnum and Willow (7 is my favorite number) It's going to be a beautiful day;I think I heard the news say it is supposed to be 74 F. Good day for walking, and more gardening. I still have February bills to pay, as I didn't finish yesterday. I always do my taxes on MLK day and I have an appt. with the CPA on Feb. 3rd. Besides that, all is well on the homefront

Yesterday, hubby was working in the backyard and I was re-potting plants. I usually try to split plants (keeping the roots on each piece), so it's a great 2 for 1 deal. Not sure what I'll do today. We are trying to improve our backyard; we have so many rabbits apparently living under our deck (and eating the grass) so hubby is putting up screen mesh and lattice. I am in charge of the potted plants and ,when he finishes, I will need to buy plants to surround the deck.

My dog is like a different animal! He acts almost like a puppy! Those ear infections must have REALLY hurt. Then we will deal with surgery to remove the large fatty lump on his side (think of a tennis ball) and numerous other skin tags, lumps and bumps.

I am so excited for my birthday this year...even though I had to plan all of it! I'm glad that today is Sunday....a day of rest. After bills, I'm really going to be able to do things that I LIKE to do! Hope that you all have a great day off as well!

7 is my number as well.... I lived in no 7 growing up, then moved to no 7 somewhere else, then rented flat 7 for 20 years.

You sound wonderful trudging and so do you Briansy.
Happy-making stuff. xx
