Her tests came back positive for pancreatitis and elevated liver enzymes. Not sure what to make of the veterinarian and I am frustrated because I don’t think I have enough information (plus contradictory information) to make an informed decision. Her normal doctor is out until Christmas, so we’re stuck with the emergency vet. For now, she’s in the hospital, on medications and fluids. The plan is to keep her there for 3 days.

Thanks for the well wishes and support; it has helped a lot. I am terrified I will drink if the worst happens.

I am sober by some miracle and I can’t believe it. I do not want to imagine how much worse things would have been if I drank today.

Very sorry about your dog Pouncer.

Hi dun!

Start of Day 10 for me. Counting days seems to be helping somehow.

Pouncer-Sorry to hear about your dog

My daughter, her husband and his son are on their way here today, on Festivus(Seinfeld joke). We will all take a drive around to look at all the Christmas lights tonight. I'll drive since the rest will be drinking.

I still have to go into work for a little while this morning.

Pouncer, I am also sorry to hear about your dog. Stay strong through this time.

Off to enjoy this day. It’s supposed to be quite mild here for the next few days. I’m sad there’s no snow for Christmas, but it’s always great to run in this type of weather. See you tonight!

So good you did not drink Pouncer.

We are learning to deal with our emotions sober now. I'm pretty sure that's what you want. I know it's true for me.

Getting through the hard stuff sober.....

Drinking won't help your doggie Pouncer. But it will definitely hurt you. And that's not what we want.

Thanks again for the support. The kids and I are going to visit her in a couple of hours.

I had a bad feeling about the vet office and the doctor, based on our experience last night and not being able to get a straight answer from the doctor. I looked the place up, but clicked on “news” results. It turns out the doctor who owns the place is on probation and the state is trying to shut the clinic down. Sooooo.....yeah.

Glad I am sober, most of all. I am making better decisions. In the past, I would have read the article, freaked out and removed her from the clinic without a plan. She needs IV and meds right now and it’s the holidays, so we don’t have many options.

It is getting quieter in here. I hope everyone is doing well and just too busy to check in.

Jewel, I just want to let you know that I am impressed with your hard work — and all that running.

I hear you.....I was thinking that whether or not this vet is shonky, this is the right thing for now, and then you can get to your own vet and possibly a specialist.
Praying that your lovely dog is comfortable and not scared. s ❤️

My sympathies about your dog Pouncer - I'll keep everything crossed for you.

I prefer dogs to people by absolute miles and my dog is the apple of my eye, so I can imagine your worry.

Just checking in. Woke early, but sober. First things first.

I'm going to a beautiful little bay with my daughter on Christmas Day. Family is scattered now.

She will be bringing a bottle of champagne to have with the picnic lunch we are taking. I'm very scared I'll succumb. I won't. I can't. For me.

I'm going to speak with her on the phone today to say I won't be drinking.

Was kept awake last night by a neighbour who was screaming drunk. Reinforced my decision to stop. Thank goodness it was not me. Waking the next day having done something totally stupid is so terrible.

I just want to sit on the sand and look at the bay. Think and talk. I hate alcohol. I really do.

Hope everyone else is holding up. If not, pick yourself and return to those of us who understand.

Yes, absolutely, but I am thinking you could ask her not to bring champagne love....I mean will she be driving? Perhaps an alcohol-free day would work well.....just a thought. s xx
