I am glad you feel at peace and have a very pragmatic way of looking at things. We can all learn from you. I don't think I drink too much water -it's other people thinking I do or reading you should drink 1.5 litres a day?I'm thinking what what what, I drink twice that on a normal day! I feel ill if I don't drink it so it's normal to me too. 2 cups of coffee in the morning and that's all I drink. Just water the rest of the time. |
Yay! 11 days...it's getting harder though, I'm off work with an injury, and I have no idea how much longer it will be till I go back. It's been a month and a half already. I had to stop or end up killing myself drinking all day because I'm not working right now. It's depressing being in pain all day, a totally wasted summer. Although, if not for this time of reflection and a reality check...I would have spent all summer wasted, (and carried on indefinitely) working or not. Despite the crappy way this came about...I'm very grateful for the time to deal with my biggest problem....drinking. |
Morning all - Happy Sober Saturday. So quiet on here ovenight. Hope everyone got throught the evening ok. I' ve had a dreadful sleep/ might try and get some more sleep now. Check in later :) |
Its rough dealing with constant pain - try to be engaged and occupied as much as possible . Hope yr injury heals soon Patterson :) |
Thanks Dee :) It's a herniated disc in my neck from slipping on the ice back in February....legs kicked out and I smacked my head on the concrete. I tried to keep working and did physio for three months... but that constant burning pain in my arm, shoulders, neck and back just got worse . Now I'm seeing the spine specialist on Monday, hopefully he can fix it. |
Sounds awful Paterson :( Maybe it all happened for a reason though, for you to be off work and work on yourself/drinking etc. I hope your pain eases soon |
An early start to day 7, like 3AM early. So sleep is still a little messed up. I don't mind because it beats being drunk. Wishing you all the best Patterson. My mom had neck problems and a spine specialist was really able to help her. Pain is a big trigger for me. RAL has a good suggestion. If you can, use this time to reevaluate, and as Dee suggested, stay engaged. I hope you're feeling better Suze. Your tireless support is greatly appreciated, but take care of you as well. Here's me today: :mowing And I'm no fan of mowing. Stay cool, stay sober. |
That sounds aweful Patterson but I agree with the others that at least one positive of the situation is you can use the time away from work to work on your sobriety. Day #3 for me. Have some activities planned with the kids for the morning then will have a nap before I go in for the night shift (shift work is no fun sometimes!) got my copy of this naked mind yesterday and looking for add to taking a peak at it when I can. Hopefully I can find time! Have a great day everyone. |
I suffer from nerve pain too so you have my empathy Patterson. D |

I have some sleep tips love....just simple ones.....like not eating for three hours before bed, and washing your feet for a minute in hot soapy water in a foot bucket to promote the body's melatonin. And no TV in the bedroom. :) s Boy do I relate to the nerve pain :( I damaged my ulna bone really badly, and the entire nerve. It's terrible....I really feel for everyone who has to live with nerve pain. This is going to take up to 6 months to heal I am told, and yep, living with constant pain is really hard. s |
I’m the opposite of you guys I don’t drink nearly enough water! I think today’s goal will be to get in at least 2 liters (and not drink of course!) I woke up with a terrible headache. The night sweats don’t help with the dehydration. |
:( s For sure.....do you take water to bed with you.....I take my metal cup and metal water bottle.....I usually drink about 700 mils easily overnight. The air con really dries me out. Hope your headache goes away love. s |
Day 12. A lovely day. I got to bed last night at a reasonable time and managed 7 hours with a very early start this morning. A visit to a Stately Home followed by a pub lunch which I managed to negotiate without booze. A first since giving up drink. Home now with a stiff coffee and hopefully a quiet night. I'm keen to get this second weekend out of the way without a drink. Good fortune, the rest of the Class. |
I'm on day 1 of this journey. Have quit before, even made 5 years through one stint but am back at it pretty heavy. Its time for a change. Thank you for having this forum I feel better when I read all the commonalities we seem to have. Day two tomorrow. |
Trojan horse welcome! Five years is fantastic and I’m sure you can do it again! Stick around and keep checking in! |

Welcome Trojanhorse :) I can relate as I had 3.5 years sober from 2012 to 2016, Sobriety was just normal, as normal as breathing, then i drank and we go right back to the start |
Well, now you have reminded me of one of my favourite songs....and one of the cleverest videos I have ever seen. :) Just so much love everyone. :) s |
welcome Trojanhorse :) D |
