The Power Of Sobriety Thread (POST!) #9
(((Fearless))) So nice to see you here!! Welcome back.
So sorry the incident has brought up so much for you, but I understand. It is very upsetting and I feel for the girl too. It could have been so many of us or those in our families. I will say a prayer for the girl and that she finds her way to rehab, AA, SR, etc. hopefully she will find redemption. She has to be devastated. Such a horrible thing to happen.
I'm sure when it's right, you'll know the time to talk to your very smart son. Maybe give him and you a little space and talk to him when you're not feeling so raw.
Take good care. ♥♥♥

Thank you, Aly 😊. You’re right- it’s best to let feelings settle a bit. I’m sure my husband and I will come up with the right things to say to him at the right time. Your support means so much to me!
Yesterday was my first appearance on a recovery podcast called The Tao Of Our Understanding. We record every Thursday morning and have some fantastic discussions on letting go, higher consciousness, etc. and how it all relates to recovery (BTW, I'm Paul H.). We do it on our own free time and it's strictly a non-commercial endeavor. Here's a link if you're interested: https://www.stitcher.com/podcast/tao...covery-podcast

Hi Fearless, Aly, Courage, and FBL!
This trip has been a recovery trip after all.
2-3 meetings a day, founders day picnic today, fellowship with other AAs, program calls. I couldn’t have asked for more! I have 3 more nights. I had a long day so im calling it a night so im fresh for tomorrow. I’m just so grateful im seeing recovery in color and it’s not grey at all (got that analogy from an AA).
I’ve come along way, started drinking at age 9, daily by age 10, hard core weekend binger in my late 20s, lsd coke meth speed mushrooms weed, jail at 10 and all through my teens, dui at 19, violent physical assaults, many missed chances. Alcoholism has been causing me to screw up over and over but now i finally see that drink or no drink im fighting a gravely serious dis-ease and only god (group of drunks) can keep me safe from myself. Thank god there is another way. Thank you allllll for being here <3

Also i miss my black cat in my avatar, panther. I know he misses me too because my roommates said he’d poo’d in the hallway lol. God bless those roommates for cleaning up after my kitty while im away working on me!
FBL, I love the podcast! Glad you are part of this! I saved as a favorite to check out more of the site/series. I follow mostly Buddhist principles in recovery so the Tao appeals to me.
LLG, wow! What a background to have. I’m glad you are here. I love god (group of drunks). Lol. It’s really true. I need my god!

Busy weekend for me. Attended "Crusher Fest" yesterday in South Milwaukee where they unveiled a bronze statue of the late, great professional wrestler. Today is off to another card show to hunt for some more treasures.
I even recorded a little video this morning about having fun in sobriety:

Today, I guess we are going to a BarBQue at my sister's and bil's house later. His mother (Ughh) is visiting with an open exit time I guess. No one gets along with her. I guess we are going to have to go, my bil really want us to get together. God give me the strength to keep my mouth shut!.. Lol! It should be fun, I really hope my niece and nephews will be there.
LLG-How are you doing today? I hope well. Keeping you in my thoughts. ♥♥♥

Good to see you all this morning. Doing some chores today. It is very hot here, in the 100's today and fire alerts all over. I hope the fires are better this year because we did get a fair amount of rain this past year.
Hope you are all well. Love and peace to all! ♥♥♥

Hey SG, Aly, Cour, FBL, Fearless and everyone!
Great video FBL I appreciated many points hou made.
Aly thx for checking in on me! Im so glad you found the strength to grt through interacting with your MIL. My sister and mother and are a challenge for me. Always negative and always need something from me.
Day 25. Last day in Miami. My sons father will be watching him the rest of the summer and offered to keep our daughter too because my son doesn’t have a daycare spot right now. Hes 7 and my daughter is 3. I think itll be good for my son to stay there but i would like to see my daughter a little more often since she does have a daycare spot. We’ll hopefully all get together this weekend so i can see them and give them some miami souvenirs. I think this is good timing too so i can keep working super hard on my recovery. Regular school starts in 8.5 weeks and then both of my kids will be back with me full time for the school year. My recovery is for me but I’m still working through the guilt that my son has become aware of my drinking and that its a problem. Anyway the food here is absolutely amazing!!!! Ill be getting lots today and tomorrow morning!

Wishing all a good Friday today.
My oldest turns 18 in a few days and another school year has wound down. Time really does fly as one gets older. At least I get to remember most of it now as a non drinker.

I see the cataract specialist later this morning. Hopefully we can come up with a plan of action. Will be SO GLAD when I can put all this eye stuff behind me!
Have a great Friday, all!

Hi everyone!
LLGold, I hope you had a good trip back from Miami and everything is good at home.
How did the MD visit go, FBL?
SG - Is the bird going to leave the nest, or hang around hoping to be fed?
I've been making visits to high schools every day lately to conduct research interviews. Today was the last one, and it was unsettling. The high school was a madhouse. Kids playing dodgeball in the hall during class, and poking their heads into classrooms to call out in truly foul language. At one point, a kid threw an empty cardboard box across the classroom, aiming for another student, hitting a man who was kind of babysitting the room while the teacher was somewhere else (but wearing headphones, watching something on a laptop). I've worked in/seen a lot of schools but this one stunned me. The 4 year graduation rate for the school is little better than 50%. It's so sad -- such a waste of human potential. It's not quite as bad to mis-educate children as it would be to channel them into addiction, but it's pretty bad. Days like this, I suspect that some powerful forces conspire to do both.

Eye appointment went fine. My cataract surgery is scheduled for July 30th. I also had to get a new primary care doctor as my old one no longer takes my insurance. First appointment with her is July 16th. I didn't even SEE a doctor for 20 years, so am making up for it now!
Super excited to be just ONE WEEK away from 10 years sober (my sober birthday is June 22).
Have a great weekend, gang!

Courage, it is a tragedy what goes on in many urban high schools. In Philly, the top students tend to migrate to two high schools, or another devoted to the fine arts. Of course, most choose private schools if the parents have the necessary financial resources. Hopefully, you can help some kids continue to live their dreams of furthering their education.
I know you will be excited to get your eye woes finished FBL. Are you going for the near vision or far vision lens?
Going to visit my folks today to celebrate Father's Day and son's birthday. It will be the first time we will have four generations of family under one roof. Courage, my son will live at home as long as I pay the wifi bill I believe. He is not the adventurous type whatsoever. My daughter, however, will be out the door asap, once she has the financial wherewithal to do so. She's thirteen, so I still have some time.
Have a good weekend all!
