The Power Of Sobriety Thread (POST!) #9
My friend/co-worker got some tough news yesterday. They said he has too much blockage to insert a stent. Bypass surgery may be in his future. For now, they will try to moderate his condition with medicine and lifestyle changes, but nothing is guaranteed. We're all hoping for the best.
That must have really shaken your coworker, FBL. No one wants to hear of a change of plans a day before a procedure. Best wishes for him moving forward.
Got my last cutting/leaf mulching of the year in Wednesday, on a very chilly day. I was riding around on the lawn dressed in heavy winter garb and probably looked pretty funny.
I hope everyone else is doing well!

FBL best to your friend.
Good to see you too SG.
I haven't seen Cour around for a couple of days, I think, I've noticed a bit of an absence. I hope she is taking some days for herself and having fun.
Have a good Friday everyone! ♥♥♥

Most definitely busy! A lot of my sober rituals have falling by the wayside this fall. Meditation, poetry, even sometimes POST & other regular SR threads. But I'm not wobbling, and I support you in my heart -- and am grateful for your support -- every day.
Morning all!
FBL, did your coworker undergo his procedure yet? Wishing for the best.
Aly, how are you doing?
Glad you are super busy Courage, but don't let all your sober rituals fall by the wayside.
Funny, I woke up with a nasty headache yesterday morning from cloggd sinuses. I mentioned something to my spouse along the lines of it not being fair that I woke up with a headache when I don't drink anymore. She asked me if I often woke up with a headache when I drank, lol. Sometimes I forget how private and personal my journey into the depths of alcoholism was. Alcohol made me a liar and a sneak. My wife was mostly clueless about my drinking issues because I never threw up, wreaked a car, lost a job or called out sick from drinking too much. It's a part of my life I still don't feel comfortable sharing. I guess I fear the judgement. Only folks like us whom have walked down that path truly understand. I love that I can be totally honest here and no one is judgmental.
Feeling better emotionally and mentally at last. I lost six weeks or so of the fall slogging through each day. I am ready for fall now. Alas, winter is nearly here.
I am loving my short commute now. I made it home in ten minutes one night. Even in rush hour traffic, I made it home in twenty. Certainly beats the 40 minutes to an hour plus I spent driving each day previously.
I have been craving carbs and sugars, as is natural this time of year. I am trying to focus on eating healthier, attempting to cut out processed foods and foods with artificial and natural flavors. I think I will get into the smoothie game. I usually eat a salad one meal a day, but I just can't stomach them currently. I found lots of recipes with veggies, fruits and seeds that look yummy and are healthy.
Take care everyone!

Got some tough news last night. My 82 year-old Mom fell in her room and broke her leg (femur). She will be undergoing surgery later this morning.
I'm grateful that the staff was right there to help her and that the hospital is literally across the street from the assisted living facility. I'm also grateful that my brother is close by to keep the rest of the family informed.
I'm hoping that I can keep my plans to visit next week, but we will have to see how everything plays out.

Update: Mom made it thru the surgery. She will be in the hospital for a few days, then she will go to a rehab center for a few weeks. I hope to speak with her either tonight or tomorrow and I'm still planning on my trip home for Thanksgiving, so will get to see her then.
Thanks for all the love and support!
