Budd, love the way you handled that. It’s like any other profession - there are outstanding ones and horrible ones. I’ve met both types and feel blessed that I had a couple of really caring and outstanding therapists. They were not the first ones I talked to!

I will NEVER forget the one psychologist who said to me, with a very serious look on her face: are you sure these people are real? Opi loved that.....I remember how funny it was to us. But this psychologist was just so dismissive re SR, and really wanted me to see that I was deluded.

I must tell my husband that he isn't real....just a figment of my imagination.

Babs honey.....grrrr......also don't like the sound of that lady you saw, but like the others, I kept trying and found much better people to talk to. s

Hi ---Boy do I feel great after reading your in put on all this. Lord help me. I did get a doozy and they for sure aren't for everyone---I'm trying self control and to zip it and listen when he talks. Ohh if you guys only knew how hard that is. It seems when we blow up at each other ---we both blow===so, it happened again today and ---I just listened and walked away into another room---for now it worked---not saying this will last ----cause nothing gets settled. Im still angry and he will have a drink pretty soon and then calm down. I sit here with nothing but as we all know---I win in the end. Cause I'm sober. Love you guys !

Babs....this is what I do, because I have a TERRIBLE temper....I need, always, to wait 5-10 mins before responding....I need to calm down, get rational....if I get that time I am ok....not so nutso, otherwise, look out.....typhoon Suze approaching....it took a while for Nick to get this about me, but now he does....and I know this about myself....give myself a bit of time to calm down and I can approach like a calm human....we all have our needs....and if our partners understand that, and accept that, as we do for them, well, I think it makes it all a little easier. xx

Suze I'm going to try that ---I'm going to give it a few minutes then come back. What the heck do I have to loose ? I will keep trying something and this time stick at it and change what and how I handle these so called arguments.
Anyway-----going to clean some closets since I'm up early and they need some going through.
PJ ---you make me smile-----I love your encouragement.
Well guys It's Monday ! ! ! Lets make the most of it !
Have a wonderful day ----

Babs, patterns of acting and reacting between spouses develop over time and can be hard to break. When one partner starts to respond differently (such as not engaging in what will be a fight), the other may escalate without thinking in an attempt to get back to the status quo. Hang on to your determination. Some relationships are salvageable, some not. You are the only one who can decide that and how much effort you are willing to put into trying to improve things.

Sass---everyone here----you guys have a way of calming me down.
Babs
p.s. I don't really talk to my friends or any one that is close to me cause I don't want to sound like a complainer. It feels good just to tell someone and then I feel better.

Drive-by update:

- Baby is almost 3 months old and already teething. He's so sweet and I love him to death.
- I go out on parental leave in a week. Can't wait to spend two whole months with the little guy.
- We had an offer accepted on a house - inspection is next week. Fingers crossed, as the last two houses we tried to buy last year failed inspection.
- Getting promoted again in July.
- Excited for my wife's first mother's day. I'm going all out
- still trying to quit the nicotine. Down to the lowest level available. Just need to get over the hump.
- one of my friends in AA relapsed after 23 years of sobriety. It's shaken me up a bit. A good reminder that even when life is coming at me in all directions, I still have to stay vigilant. But after 6+ years, sobriety has been pretty easy breezy for the most part.

Also, another vote for therapy. My mom is a shrink so I've never really had any kind of stigma regarding counseling. My wife and I still do a marriage counseling session once a month. Everything is great between us - we just want to keep it that way.

Until next time . . .
