A Different Path Part 14
Sometimes I see us Gilmerites as a large group of friends hiking a new path together. We support each other and now...support hose will support us too. We stop to watch a sunrise before we start the day, and stop for the sunset at day's end.
Kathy leads but not by much because we all walk beside her. Me? I am the old gal at the rear of the pack with the whistle and the big stick to poke any stragglers...and with the steel toed bunny slippers to comfort and to give a good shinning when necessary.
Yes, we walk together.

Awhile ago several people were wondering where they might donate a tax-deductible gift in my memory in lieu of flowers.
One possibility is The Voice of the Martyrs (https://www.persecution.com), which offers assistance and protection to Christians who are being oppressed and persecuted elsewhere in the world.
Another possibility: Metanoia Prison Ministries. You can either donate online at https://www.egsnetwork.com/gift2/?giftid=950C89255E7C46F or by mail at
Mission to North America
PO Box 890233
Charlotte NC 28289-0233
Designate: Metanoia Prison Ministries

Tomorrow night my husband is hosting our annual Community Group Christmas party.
We always do a white elephant gift exchange (with stealing) at the party, which everyone enjoys; but sometimes it can get a little hairy because people's kids are often unhappy getting a set of coasters or a potholder.
So this year my husband has HIRED a GENUINE PARTY SANTA to hand out individualized gifts to all the kids present. The goal was to limit the cost to $15/kid. My younger daughter loves kids and toys, so she came over a couple nights ago to brainstorm with my husband about what to buy whom. There's a lot of stuff that sounds pretty darned cool!
I'll come put in my appearance. It's always a fun time, and I'm extra excited to see how the kids like the toys!
My only regret was the fact that I couldn't make my annual cookie contribution. I had really done my best to plan for it--and even bought the ingredients ahead of time--but there just ain't no way this year.
About 20 minutes ago I got a text from my older daughter with a picture of little whte puffballs on a cooling rack! She made Mexican Wedding Cakes, which are always my #1 Christmas cookie to bring to parties. She is going to bring them for the party, which pleases me no end. They will be there, and my night will be complete.
Plus, on Christmas Day she says she will bring over toffee! That's something else I love to make for Christmas because it is fun and easy. She and her kids will have fun making it.
I feel so blessed. What an incredible stroke of grace that I ended up with a crop of kids that is so kind, interactive, and enjoyable to be around. With the way they grew up (the acrimony in the marriage, the constant anger and fighting), it is truly a wonder that they're not a bunch of axe murderers!

A very worthy secular possibility for donations is my wonderful, wonderful hospice service, VITAS Healthcare.
