I just got another letter from Trach.
He's been there two full months now, and last week he had lunch with his family for the first time since he's been there.
He is working the twelve steps, and now he's on number four. His counselor is giving him a lot of encouragement.
He said that his alcohol withdrawals were not too bad, neither the physical nor the psychological--he said by the time he was admitted he was really, really sick to death of alcohol, anyway.
Nicotine cravings, however, are a different story!
He works in the woodshop and is plenty busy with his full courseload of recovery classes and spiritual classes.
He does not sound lonely or isolated at all--to be honest, he sounded lonelier when he was on his own.
Many people have been writing to him, and he deeply appreciates it. If you include your return address, he'll write back.

Thanks Gilly- lease send him my thoughts and prayers. Also tell him this:
18 years ago- I had an option of doing a 3-6 months rehab, in a country farm like setting. I justified to myself I needed to stop with will power- otherwise it would show I was weak (!) and 'my family needed me'. Furthermore- I had bills to pay. You know m end story to that. I admire trach for his doing the rehab.

Babs you sound a little less stressed?
Peej, I love the new Avi, is that a print of your work on a shirt or is the shirt part of a piece of art? I can't see it close enough to tell!
Sass, how are you now? All over your fall? X

Toots- it is my much not loved burns garment. It was custom made- with about 60 very specific measurements and was worth $800. I wore it 23/7 for 7000 hours. They do not recycle these garments- because of infection risk- so I turned it into art. The symbols on the front- were painted on to cloth, treated for colour fast- then hand stitched onto the garment. About 600 stitches- I broke 2 needles and once sewed it to my jeans.
It was the beginning inspiration in my current role as an undergrad art student.

Well, the couple from California have made an offer. It is too low for us to want to accept so we have asked them to rethink it. They left us hanging over night, hopefully today will bring us more news. While we don't want to feel cheated, it would be nice to move forward from this holding pattern.
It would also be nice not to have to keep the house in pristine condition and focus on my proofreading work, which is still a total chore.
