Morning, another sober day for me today I hope.

My triggers are strong between 4-7pm, my old drink-start times so as far as is possible I get myself indoors and stay indoors that time. I’m too raw to socialise where there is booze yet, but I’ll get there

I’m 38. Since I was 16 I’ve seen Friday as a day to ‘reward’ myself and get completely blindo. It was great fun when I started but it hasn’t been for at least ten years. Hangovers, arguments, illness, disability (temp!), sickness. Misery

But it’s hard to change that wiring. Maybe it’ll never change.

I’m just going to go home and eat something nice at three pm, wake up sober Saturday. Please let it be

Cravings have been pretty week to nonexistent recently. I can only hope that I fall back into the groove of being sober i was in for a while before relapsing,. Being sober just feels normal right now. I remember previous times I've tried in the past, getting past 1day without thinking about drinking was a huge milestone. It's taken a lot of work, but it does get better.

Day 30 today, 1 month sober august 5.
Keep up all the good work July class!

I wouldn't rush into situations with drinking. Give yourself time and indulge yourself in some other way in the meantime. Getting sober has been a great way for me to rediscover old hobbies. No reason you can't have fun!

Good morning all. Day 26 here. After 7 months of hardly mentioning anything with my wife about drinking, we spent the night away from home last night and dipped our toes in the water. She has been supportive but I've figured talking to her about what I was going through wouldn't mean much to her since she wouldn't really understand like the people here. We can talk about big picture stuff now. Even had a talk about upcoming retirement. Was great to start talking.

One of the things I talked about was social events. I told her that just being around people that are drinking wasn't a big deal to me anymore, but having or going to an event where drinking was the focal point, she could count me out. Might be a long time before that changes.

Headed for the weekend!

Main thing is Dee, I’m not going to listen to my wiring. I ignore my brain telling me crazy stuff all the time.

Not today. Another 24 for me come what may

Like other said I avoid drinking situations where the only point is drinking. So if its a trip to the brewery or a late night drink fest, I just skip it. For other things like happy hours at work, BBQ with friends, etc., I have a few things I'm doing. One is to plan for it. If its a BBQ I'm going to or if I'm having people over, I've been getting ginger beers or other non-alcoholic drinks that I like. The other day I told someone I didn't drink at my neighborhood picnic and they didn't even realize it. I think they thought the bottle in my hand was a beer bottle.

I also have a few go-to excuses right now. With the golf folks I've told them I'm doing the Whole 30 diet with my wife. Which just happens to be true and involves no drinking. That let's me say I'm not drinking without getting into it. I also ride a motorcycle and if I'm on my bike its easy. "No drinking cause I'm riding." That was one rule I was able to stick to even when I was drinking (though I rode my bike a lot less because I was hung over or didn't want to restrict myself from drinking). I've ridden to a number of things and I know drinking is just off the table at that point.

All of these are covers to avoid public discussions about having a problem with alcohol and not drinking. I've told a few close friends, but I don't really want to get into it with people I don't know well (and frankly its none of their business). Surprisingly, most people don't ask. The only ones I have to bring an excuse out for are people who probably drink too much themselves.

Hi Shenzy. What’s your plan for tonight?

I’m going to be in, feel free to chat if you want. If you’re in the UK youre in my previous peak-drinking time, good time to avoid it for another day 👍👍👍

Managed to get through this evening Ben, how about you ?
Took kids out for a while, then we all went to McDonalds for a McFlurry. Had a few moments this evening where it did cross my mind "I'll be ok with only one glass" …. but knew full well what would happen if I did.
Yes, in the UK Ben. Looking forward to waking up tomorrow morning sober.

Have a good evening rusty.

Well done Shenzy....I take your McDonald’s and I raise you a kfc tonight with my kids. Oh that tasty chicken fat cooked in....chicken fat. Delicious!!

I started attacking my garden today: my missus will be going to the offie for me if I carry on with this level of incompetent energy 😂😂

Night all

Morning! Nice job on the run, S. I woke up and hit the weights this morning, then cooked myself an omelet. About to head to the amusement park with the family.

Today I will not drink.
