Hi John
I’m doing ok, thanks. I had rather a big teary meltdown earlier today but I’m ok now I went out for a coffee and had a nice walk on the beach in the sun which helped lift my spirits. I even made a cake, then proceeded to eat far too much of it lol
Hope you’re having a lovely weekend

Ah, I remember the teary meltdowns, getting out of the house and doing something is always a good idea under such circumstances. Fresh air, exercise and for you a beach too!

What sort of cake did you make?

Yes I’ve been having tears every day, sometimes only a little but yesterday was a big meltdown. I’m figuring the waves of grief will come less often and hopefully less intensely over time. It’s not quite a month yet since Mum went and not quite 3 weeks for Dad. So it’s still pretty raw. I’m glad I’m not drinking because too much alcohol could make me cry over trivial stuff, I’d be a mess if I was drinking.

It was a banana cake, I had bananas in the freezer. I didn’t have much butter left so I used coconut oil instead and honey instead of sugar, it turned out pretty yummy
I’ve just started experimenting with paleo recipes to see what I can come up with that has less sugar, although honey is still sugar really
Next time I’ll try chocolate chip cookies

Hi Willow.

Nice. We like banana cake, vegan though with low sugar. Lovely with a cuppa!

With regards to grief it's still very early days for you and I can tell you from personal experience that drinking whilst grieving is horrendous. Things get better, slowly but surely. My dad and my sister died within months of each other and for me the full grieving process took around 3 years but there was continuing improvement throughout those 3 years.

You're doing great, well done

I'm at 119 days today.

John

Thanks John Sorry about your Dad and your sister. It’s so hard losing the people we love. It’s only a month so I know it’s early days yet. I’ve organised a phone counselling session for today to start working through some things.

My sister made a paleo chocolate slice recently that was really yummy. I’ve tried making choc chip cookies (using cacao nibs, honey, coconut flour and coconut oil) but am still working out how to perfect them. I haven’t tried many vegan dessert recipes, We have happy backyard chooks so have eggs aplenty. I don’t eat much meat at all but do occasionally eat fresh fish (Although this does still bother me so I may well stop again). I was vegan for quite a while but I have started eating eggs again from our “girls”. They’re actually delightful to have scratching around the backyard I should look up some vegan recipes though, much healthier

Ps maybe you could share your vegan banana cake recipe John?
Unless it’s a secret recipe?
It sounds delicious

Hope the phone counselling goes well and that it's helpful.

Will get the recipe for the cake from my wife, it's a very healthy, wholesome cake so might not appeal to all!

I’m just finding so many other threads to absorb, and reading so many stories helps me .

I’m still more introspective than I am helpful to others, but trying to be supportive and honest without sounding brutal or judge mental can sometimes be challenging —-so better to read, hold the mirror up to myself, and reflect.

Most of the time.

❤️
