It's been 40s and 50s here in San Antonio the last few days, 30s overnight, and I'm finding the relative cold to be psychologically oppressive. Such a spoiled baby I am that way, haha! But we're supposed to get back into the 70s for a few, that'll be nice.

Andy- humour is a very healing thing to use...
I notice at the meeting I run every Monday (in the city, quite feral at times) those people who are serious about their recovery can laugh with others at the process.

Sorry, whiny. And yeah, I whined in that thread too.

Love to all of the Overs. ♥♥

Mags, be well dear.

17 dead in a high school in Florida today. More in the hospital with some critical. Video of the terror. The guy was extremely well armed with AR-15, pistol, shotgun from what I've seen, the total results of the investigation have not been released. Improved background checks at a minimum. I own guns, more than a few. But I'm not a violent offender or have a mental illness.
My heart goes out to the children and the families of the victims, which includes every child in the school whose sense of safety and security have been ripped from their psyche. We hurt ourselves when we drank, but these children have done nothing to deserve this terror.
David Jolly, former Republican congressman just said the most sensible first step solution I've heard all day.

It is what is usually the coldest month of Winter and it was 67° F Wednesday. Today the high will be 75°F!

Be well people.

Morning Andy. Thank you for bringing us into the awkward, closed club of cancer. One we all fear. All wish to avoid, yet all know someone in our circle who has fought this terror. Reading your posts, gentle, humorous, angry, fearful or accepting, all allow us a keen insight into how to nobly deal with the threat always with dignity. Until it happens to someone in our immediate circle, someone we see and love daily, we have no idea of the effects on us and them. Or of the quiet strength is takes to survive it's ravages. I continually send healing thoughts your way, if anyone deserves to win this fight, it's Mrs T.

Without being overtly political, and being merely an observing Brit, I do not understand why certain branches of American society demand the adherence to the second amendment ' the right to bear arms' as it stands dating from 1791, when other constitutional laws have been amended as late as 1990's when it has suited.
I believe when the law was written it was to allow a person to protect and defend themselves, to hunt, to - if ever again necessary - form a militia. I have no personal issues with guns, I used to target shoot, and hubby has paid for me to have shotgun lessons ( clay pigeon, skeet shooting), but the needs of the people have altered in the 200+ years since the law was amended. Restricting ourselves to doing something 'because we always did it that way' is akin to living the Amish way of like. Cherry picking the Laws to adhere to and the Laws to amend seems to be down to what suits the legislators and in this case, the NRA. Surely there ought to be a way of enabling those who are capable, safe and legal to continue to buy and use guns, while making it much harder for those who should not be armed, the opportunity.

Again, this is just the observations of a Brit, and I do not wish to offend my American cousins, just keep more of them safe.

Toots, no offense taken! Many of us think it’s insane. Terrorists have killed far fewer than guns in the hands of those who shouldn’t have them. I ache for the parents.

Hugs to all who need them.

Have a tolerable Thursday.

I tire of politicians offering "My thoughts and prayers to the victims" while taking money from the NRA. It is saddening to see politicians put money ahead of innocent children's lives. This is the real war on terror.

Keep sober despite the horrible going ons happening in the world and in our personal lives.

Toots, this American takes no offense and agrees with you. The NRA is way too powerful and most of our politicians are too eager to cater to them for their own personal benefit.

Gilmer, I had to Google to see who David Jolly was, but I certainly agree with his comments last night.

NO need for politics, just the votes of Americans. We each have that, in the privacy of the voting booth which is between us, the ballot counters, and Putin.

I just got Hulu because my wife wanted to see the "Handmaid's Tale." We are halfway through and it is not from the times of the Pilgrims as we thought. Like 1984, it hits too close to home.

Toots we know, we have lost my father to it, and my MIL much loved, and we were here to help. We are done care giving, and now move back to our home part of the country.

Here's a poem of mine. Take it for what it's worth.

"Seize Each Day

Think we’re only here to help you, when we send you daily prayer?
Never realizing your courage, helps us all with what you’ve shared,
For you all have taken chances, self- disclosed, that’s really rare,
But for all the grace of our God, we could find ourselves right there.

So you’ve given us a benchmark, of just what it really takes,
To go out and meet the challenge, when the fates put on the brakes,
To the life we took for granted, to the love we’d not forsake,
And the sudden realization, that we all could share your fate.

So I'll try to pass along, and acknowledge that I see,
Things I hadn't thought through, things I now see differently,
Those I cherish just may have to, earlier than hoped take leave,
Or the roles might be reversed, they might have to care for me.

Some will make it past the gates, that threaten simple lives,
Rise again, recovered, once again their spirit thrive,
Upon the love that always was the reason we survived,
Without them would we only feel, that we had been deprived?

For those who suffer, losses deep, I have one thing to say,
Would you have them, have to do, what you went through today?
Or would you rather spare them, all the pain you had to take,
Be the one to be the rock, that helped them on their way?

I’ve lost some too, who've loved me, as I loved each one of them,
Rather than remorse, and mortal pain on requiem,
I shall smile, and think on all, good times and not condemn,
Them for leaving, me in grieving,
With no rose, and just the stem.

Celebrate the time you have or had, cherish moments spent with them."

© Itchy / RVRoadie 2003

And from another about losing a child:

"Yet all were sons and daughters, and left behind an ache,
In the hearts of those, whose turn should come, before their children's wake.

Remember them."
