Thanks Dee.

Today

Another early morning workout with an upper body orientation and a strength (5 reps) focus.

Later this morning I'm meeting with my GP to discuss the results of my latest scans and meetings with specialists. To use a sports analogy, she's the quarterback and really is the only doctor that has all the information. I don't think there are going to be any surprises, but the way things are going of late one never knows.

Dinner tonight is going to be a roasted pork tenderloin served in a mustard/cream/horseradish sauce with quinoa as an accompaniment.

Anybody who knows anything about me knows that in addition to strength training I'm also an endurance athlete. Century bicycle rides and marathons are faves; more the latter than the former. Sadly, various issues have plagued me for months with the result being that I was not able to train for the NYC Marathon on Nov. 5th. Such an event is hard enough if one is trained and it would have been torture given my lack of training so today I formalized my decision by deferring to next year. It's now real with no recourse. Quite bummed about the situation, but intellectually I know it's the right decision.

Exercise for the day is going to be home based, most likely the usual pushups and planks.

Dinner last night changed slightly, with the sides being roasted potatoes and corn. Tonight is undecided; I may be alone with a possibility that my son will be here to eat.

Hopefully next year. Obviously lots of "ifs", but it would be wonderful to cross that finish line in Central Park once again.

What a day. It started off with my usual Saturday time at the gym, then my wife and I took some old paint and such to our county's hazardous waste collection day, and then spent the next five hours putting most of the basement back together since the contractor work is done. The scope of both the indoor and outdoor projects grew which means bigger bills. As in many thousands of dollars more. Has the opposite ever happened? In addition yesterday was a perfect day for our 2 year old (meaning out of warranty) washing machine to break and we had a repair guy come today. The repair bill was as much as a brand new machine so after dusting ourselves off we went shopping for a new machine that will be delivered on Wednesday.

[Sarcasm]I'm coming to realize that I'm a real "keeper". Last Saturday was a beautiful weather day so my wife and I got in the car and took a drive.....to Home Depot. Today was another nice day that we spent working inside and afterward we went washing machine shopping. I really went over the top because I arranged to have the machine installed the day before her birthday. How's that for thoughtfulness? [/sarcasm]

Dinner.....there will be no cooking as we just got back from the aforementioned shopping trip and by the time we clean up our acts it's going to be late for dinner after a long day so for probably the second time in a year I'm ordering in.

Sunday fun at the gym is over and while we have some house projects to attend to this afternoon it will be nothing like yesterday.

Dinner tonight is going to be an eye round roast cooked on my kamodo grill with roasted asparagus and cauliflower as the sides.

For as much as we pay for those machines, they should last at least 20 years!!!!!!

Ain't that the truth!

When talking to the appliance repair person he explained that regardless of price most of the internal parts are the same. The difference is in the bells and whistles. Our now defunct machine had a lot of them, this new one will not have as many. Just crazy, but it was nice to hear some honesty from the repair guy about the industry as well as him not trying to push us for expensive repairs. In no uncertain terms he recommended that we do not get the repairs done; it's going to hurt his wallet in the short run, but I'd absolutely recommend him and call him when we need such services. As a home owner you know it's just a matter of time before something breaks.

Thanks about the good wishes for my wife's birthday. Just like last year, the year before that, the year before that, .......she's turning 33 again. Sort of like Jack Benny being 39 for decades.

Yes, 33 was a good year around here also.

Today

Today is going to be a low key exercise day. In truth there is no valid reason why I should not run, but I'm pretty darn sure my exercise is going to be the walk I did to meet a friend for breakfast and another walk to the bank this afternoon.

It is nice that you live so close to your destinations that you are able to walk to them

Yes it is. When we moved here both my wife and I worked in Manhattan and wanted to be within walking distance of either a bus or train so that we didn't have to buy another car. As it turned out we have easy access to both modes. My little commercial area starts about 2/3rds of a mile from my house and extends another half mile or so. Easily walkable and at the top of my little block starting only a few hundred yards away is a 350 acre wooded reservation that has nice hiking trails and wildlife with an Audubon Society bird watch center at the top . Bird watching isn't necessarily my thing, in part because I don't have the knowledge to know what I'm looking at, but the enthusiasm and friendliness of the folks who frequent the spot are off the charts and make visits there very enjoyable. An additional bonus of my situation is that I'm on a low traffic block; for the most part unless you live on it there's no reason to drive on it. The only downside, which has always been the case with this town, is that our real estate taxes a stupidly high.

Today

After almost a week my daughter's boyfriend left a short while ago. She's not happy, but I'm sure will somehow survive.
