Caprice, after days of burgers and bagels and pasta I actually had a salad for lunch today!
But I already smoked a bunch of cigarettes.
So... you know... All good.

I feel you, Leeloo,
I have become a chain smoker as well and it is my next step.
At the center for addiction to which i have an appointment on the 29th, I will bring it up. They help with that too.
It's like I can't live an addiction free life to whatever it may be. At least I take comfort in that it's not messing with my brain or causing as much pain.

Good morning Boys, Girls and fellow Badger. Day 12. Does everyone have their plan in place to avoid the drink this weekend?

Erratic, the anxiety locking/messing with your jaw sounds really scary. I'm sorry that you're having to deal with that.

Checking in on day 12. Yesterday was hard - really, really hard. Not in cravings or anything, but just in sheer physical pain. I made it through work only because I know that I have no sick leave left, and after taking a week off unpaid last week I'm worried both about finances AND about my employer getting pissy about the excessive and unpaid leave. My hips and right ankle were hurting so much that it was hard to walk, and my shoulders and elbows were so bad that I was having trouble using my arms and hands. I ordered a TENS unit - it should arrive this evening. I'm really, really hoping it helps with the pain control. The Gabpentin is still only a little bit effective (as long as it's not just a placebo effect) and I'm still titrating upwards, and will be for at least a couple weeks. I need something that will help with the pain that isn't a narcotic, so trying TENS it is.

Good news is that the mania (I guess technically hypomania, since it only lasted maybe 2 or 3 days) has passed, and I'm feeling more like I'm at my baseline, mood wise. I don't feel depressed, either. (Still hoping to avoid that.) Unfortunately, it seems the hypomania was helping mask the pain I was in, and now that it's gone I have my normal joint pain, full force.

I really wish opiates were effective for chronic pain management. It would make things so much easier. But they're clearly not, most especially not for me.

Day 20 checking in. Feeling pretty low this morning- not the deep depression of praying to die like I had while drinking but just kind of empty. Maybe it's the boredom, the time that I used to fill with drinking and I need to pick up another hobby. Tonight I have a meeting that I've been looking forward to every Thurs. evening so that's good!

Erratic- I can relate to the anxiety. My jaw dropped reading about your attacks- I thought I was the only one who experienced the weird frozen tongue thing! I'm so sorry that you are going through that, it's terrifying! I did go to a doctor and am taking some anxiety medication for right now and it's helped tremendously.

Sorry if this is such a debby-downer update. Overall I'm super grateful to be sober! I guess it's going to take a bit of time for my emotions to regulate and just get used to actually feeling my emotions instead of drinking them away.

Have a good evening/day everyone <3

G'morning everyone. Checking in day 22.

Welcome leeloo, you drink like I did. You found the right place.

I made hotel reservations next week to go apartment hunting. I'm pretty pumped! I've lived in this house, dealing with my crazy family in town, for 3 years now and ready for a change. I know drinking this weekend would completely derail my plans to hit the road next week. Extra incentive to stay on the wagon.

Still using tea and exercise to deal with anxiety. Trying to eat better, gradually at least.

I'm enjoying all the updates. We're really racking up some sober days! Hard to believe.

Be well everyone

Good morning / afternoon all!

My shift is over and am facing 3 grateful days off. I have already taken the girls (bear and badger) for a 2.5 mile walk, and it is looking like an awesome fall day. Will finish putting my flower bulbs in the ground, general stuff. I do have to go grocery shopping, something I have been avoiding unless husband goes with me, that darn wine aisle,,,,

So many new names! I hate my work sometimes as I miss out or come in way late on some awesome posts that are here!

I am sorry about your anxiety Erratic and low mood HN0685, I hope you have found an outlet for everything.

General you are an inspiration to me! I would love to do yoga, I took one class and it kicked my a&&. I was the only beginner in a group of a dozen or so and felt really out of place and lost, so I never went back. Haven't given up though.

Meshelly congrats on day 13! it will be a lucky day!!

Badger- my plans as I earlier stated is some yard work, for fun however husband and I are going to the shooting range Saturday, something we haven't done together in a long time. Otherwise sit around in a sober fashion and enjoying life!

Time to get in the shower and get my day going before the dogs drive me crazy.

I just received another 10 page application with lots of fine print reading to go through and signing off on.
But it will be worth it!
My dream locations would be nearby any beach destination like Cancun, Puerto Vallarta, Acapulco, Playa Del Carmen, Veracruz....there are dozens upon dozens of locations I'd be attracted to and in between semesters, if I learn basic Spanish, I could work at some hotel or tourist area, just not a bar!

I have to be up super early tomorrow so I can get in some exercise before work and I'm already not tired enough for the time it is here. Going for the chamomile tea - I hope it works like you all say it does!

Day 13 and trigger city over here. It's Thursday and this is when my weekend usually gets started. I usually roll into work on Friday with a major hangover then drink heavily the rest of the weekend. The thought of drinking is entering my thoughts, but I'm going to focus on the positive improvements over this short period of time:

-Heartburn, acid reflux, painful bloated feeling/chest pain is completely gone
-Brain fog is gone
-No longer sleepy at 6pm -back on a normal sleeping schedule
-Insomnia is gone
-Uncontrollable jitters in the afternoon are gone
-No longer binge eating at night (full pizzas, full plate of nachos, etc.)
-No guilty feelings for my covert drinking and hiding of vodka bottles
-More of an interest in doing more productive things (hiking, reading, etc.) instead of just thinking about when I'm going to get drunk.
-Sore muscles, pains, tendinitis are improving rapidly

I'll be checking in and reading this weekend, because I know those demons will try to convince me that since I'm feeling better I can go back to drinking...hell no!

Goodnight everyone. Day 21 closing - only 8:40pm but going to read my book for a bit before going to sleep. Younger son round tonight (19) we were just walking round the town when I had the thought that it would be nice to take him for a pint... Had a coffee and cake instead at Nero's. Him chainsmoking cigarettes and me about to get on his case and then realising we're both addicted to different drugs. Sometimes I think the older I get, the less I understand.

Safe and sober, Septembermembers.

10 page application read, signed, dated, completed and sent with required attachments.
Can't say I'm too thrilled about the conditions (wage is pitiful, in class hours are longer than originally outlined) but at least accomodations, utilites and cable internet are included. Just hoping it can be nearby a beach location and preferably a small group/class teaching adults instead of children.
There was a section inquiring about mental health (any history of depression, anxiety, eating disorders etc.) well, it is a job application what will one say? I'm a recovering alcoholic with underlying issues. Of course not. At least I could be totally frank when it asked if I was on any medication, which I am not, as of yet.
Tomorrow, tomorrow, tomorrow has to come and I need to start working on adjusting my diet. It's a bad habit. If for 2 weeks I force myself into eating yoghurt and fruits that is what I will start to crave instead. Already done that, I just don't have the will power now because I'm just relieved it's not booze! But i can certainly do better. With the caffeine and smoking too.
Good day to all, hang in there!

Welcome Chris Ben, Leeloo, and any new people I may have missed. I'm only here for a bit, reading posts and checking in. I'm super tired, have been waking up at 4:30 every morning. Not on purpose, I'm just suddenly wide awake!
Nice not to be hungover, but it does make me tired. I'm using that time for meditation. And playing computer games. And going in to work a little early, but not much.
I need to do my newsletter tonight, but honestly I am just too tired. I may wake up early in the morning and do it, that seems to be my new cycle.
I am loving being sober even though a lot of my life sucks right now.

Hugs to everyone and happy sober night! I love the name Septembermembers, someone here called us that. Cool! Good night fellow Septembermembers!
