Don't be so hard on yourself Gilmer. No one hits a home run at every trip to the plate.

FBL, your boss does like to make certain that you stay busy.

Courage, are you working on multiple papers, or just one huge one?

Glee, you seem to have such a positive attitude and balance in your life. It is an inspiration to all of us.

Gilmer - I don't think it's shallow to feel deflated by your recent grades or overwhelmed by how much you have to learn.

I saw a quote on instagram today that said "People give up because they see how far they have to go instead of how far they've already gotten."

As a sober person you are in a very good position to relax, lean into it, and see what you can learn from this situation.

I was not a student who took a lot of risks academically. Now, years later, I get the opportunity to take a lot of intellectual risks in the work that I do. Knowing I'm doing things so-so or poorly has pushed me outside my comfort zone and helped me grow.

Fbl -I am certain you will find the time for your new project. You strike me as someone who is realistic with their schedule.

I have a date with the tv and couch! Have a good night everyone!

Been up since 1:30 and don't have to really be up until 4:30 this morning. I guess I will make some coffee, pay some bills and work out a bit instead of tossing and turning in bed.

Have a good day all!

I'm pretty good at prioritizing what needs to be done at work. It helps that I love what I do and would probably do it for free (shhh, don't tell my boss that last part!).

Have a great Thursday, gang!

I’ve never heard of a pay decrease for a job well done!

After a little lounging around last night after work, I laced up my sneakers and hit the treadmill. My youngest hung out with me and colored.

For a very long time I've been "all or nothing" when it comes to diet and exercise. There were many good reasons to skip my workout: it was a long day, i had to stay at work late, it was late by the time I made dinner. But.... I got in a quick workout and felt good for doing it.

I’ve still got treadmill phobia, but I have been consistently increasing my steps around the house and taking multiple trips up and down the stairs (before I used to try to carry everything at once, like that guy in the early days of Sesame Street during the counting video, carrying the climactic “TEN CHOCOLATE CAKES!!!”)

Hijinks ensued!

LOL I just updated my list and I'm working on 5 papers, a grant proposal, and a book. They're fortunately at different stages in the pipeline, but still -- this is where sobriety has brought me!

You are a frickin’ dynamo! I think it’s very telling that, as busy as you are, you still set aside time to get on here and build up your sobriety chops!

And you take the time to encourage us all, too!

Thanks!

Hi All,

Some busy beavers here.

I am taking my first week day off since I started this new gig a few months back. I have two events tomorrow. A charity golf gig for my YMCA and a REAL, REAL CARLOS concert. Yes, off to see my very fav artist...Carlos Santana, with my new fav gf, IL. Busy, but fun day planned!

Great weekend to all.

Carlos

Gilmer when I went back to study as a mature age student, this one professor would mark me down, everytime.

No reasons given - or none that made sense to me.

That was the only class in the next 10 years I ever had any results trouble in, so I guess something I did or something I was the guy didn't like?

Enjoy Carlos, Carlos

Oh, I hope you have a great day, Carlos! Hope the golf game is a really good time complete with good weather, hope the concert’s a blast, and I hope you and IL have a perfect time together!

Thank you, Dee. I’ve had two previous classes with this professor and teaching assistant, and they’ve both been unfailingly kind, considerate, and professional. I’ve conducted myself professionally, too, to the best of my knowledge (no bratty, whiny emails—just simple queries, despite flinging myself across the fainting couch in the privacy of my own home).

For the whole first half of my college career I had a teaching assistant who was very jovial by nature and went out of his way to be friendly and helpful.

This new one is nice, but terse. I’ve gotten more elaboration from my professor, who is very cordial and cooperative: he explained a few things in a way that I actually “got.”

But the fact remains that I am simply not quick to catch on to the million and two grammar categories of Greek.

We’re all online in this program, and all different ages, so he can’t dislike my looks or age—and there are actually plenty of women at this seminary, so I can’t blame sexism or traditional religious gender roles.

I think I have simply “risen to my level of incompetence.”

At least they know I care and am doing everything I can to improve my understanding, including and especially the exercises they recommend.

Sorry if I went up the wrong street

I don't think incompetence comes into it at all.
I was partner to a classics scholar once.

Ancient Greek is quite different to Latin or Hebrew.

We all have our specific skills

You never go down the wrong street, Dee!
I appreciate everything you say.

One thing’s for sure: at age 57 instant memorization is definitely no longer my skill!
